From time to time you read about or see that news story where inmates smuggle contraband into the prison either for use themselves in the case of narcotics or cell phones or to harm others in the case of some sort of weapon.  But here is a first.  These two fellows with the help of another individual smuggled in a semi-automatic pistol.  Why you ask?  They smuggled it into the prison in an effort to shoot themselves in hope of reducing their prison sentences or in the alternative, to sue the Department of Corrections. 

For those attorneys accepting criminal conflict cases, it looks like you will all be getting a raise come July 1st as Senate Bill 2510 amended F.S. 27.5304 by increasing the statutory caps for certain flat fees in criminal cases.

In February, Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Pine was gunned down while investigating burglaries which resulted in the ultimate pursuit of the gunman who murdered him.  Today, the gunman's girlfriend was indicted for First Degree Murder as a result of Florida's "Felony Murder Rule" pursuant to Florida Statute 782.04(2).
