Our goal; help locate the remains of the six Marines of the 1st Battalion, 1st Marines (1/1) Missing In Action (MIA) in Vietnam. I am "seeding" this site with all the information I have found over the last few years.
This site is open to the public to increase the chances of connecting with 1/1 veterans, their families or any interested person who can help.
THIS IS A NEW IDEA, TRY IT
The new idea here is to use current internet technology to make discoveries that were not possible until recently. This site will help 1/1 veterans who were involved in the actions that took these men's lives, remember details that may help locate remains or find a crucial eye-witness.
Our ultimate goal is to provide the new Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) with credible information that points to a specific patch of ground and says "He's right here."
Our specific objectives are:
1. SHARE our collective memory. Uncover and share as many details as possible about the MIA event, the location of where the Marine fell, or where his body was last seen.
2. VISUALIZE the place and the event to further stimulate other veterans' recollections about the events and locations.
3. SEARCH plausible locations for physical evidence.
Here is how we will accomplish these three objectives.
SHARE OUR COLLECTIVE MEMORY
Anyone can post information here. Especially 1/1 vets who have information that MAY POSSIBLY help in some way. please don't hesitate. Anything you can share is welcome. Who knows what useful fact may come out of a story or memory about the Marine or the people, places and events surrounding his death.
Please give a way to contact you. If you don't want your contact information publicly displayed in the post, send it to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call me at (248) 921-5045.
VISUALIZE THE PLACE AND THE EVENT.
Those of us with the skills will use Google Earth to create 3-D visual tours of the battlegrounds that can be played by anyone from this site. The tours will include all currently known information in enough detail and placed in relevant location and time sequence. New memories collected from these tours will then be added to this site and the tours, refining our collective memory.
You can play a tour as a video at any time. We can also connect personally by phone and online, vet to vet. We can give you a custom tour, going exactly where you want to go. You won't be rushed, your custom tour will last as long as you want.
SEARCH FOR PHYSICAL EVIDENCE.
If we identify potential locations, we will organize a physical search and possibly run our own chemical soil tests to discover physical evidence then turn our results over to DPAA. There's lots of work to do. Your help is needed. Please join up.
