Our very own paperdigits summarizes what's been going on in the community lately, including neat things like:

* Grain synthesis techniques
* RGB color mixing from Elle Stone
* Ingo talks Pixel Shift (Pentax) support in RT
* darktable + MIDI control from houz!
* +Morgan Hardwood writes up a great guide on dealing with clipped highlights in +RawTherapee

Come check out what's new!

Weak signal these days.

While I was visiting London for LGM, I shared a flat with a bunch of wonderful folks including Johannes Hanika. During our time there he was hacking at the colo(u)r checker module for darktable and experimenting with emulating the same color styles from his new Fuji camera. Here's where he got to. :)

Republished on with permission from its original post over on the darktable blog.

I have been trying to achieve a nice frontal lighting technique that evoked a kind of fashion photography look. Joel Grimes has some great videos on YouTube in which he works with a beauty dish. I pulled out an old one we have in the studio and worked with it a bit. I never felt I got results that were dramatically different from using a small soft box in close, aside from the catch lights. Does the effectiveness of a beauty dish vary between manufacturers? One you put a sock on a beauty dish does it really look any different than a softbox?

It's been a while since I was last on G+, I've been trying to hone in my ocf skills. Here are two portraits shot with one light (thanks to Zack's guide). I'd love your critique and feedback.

Hi everyone... I want to delve further into macro photography and I am looking for a nice macro lens as well as a ring light.  I am looking for advice on the best macro lens and ring light for my X-T1.  Also what about a macro extension tube adapter in lieu of the macro lens?

I currently have the following camera, lenses and flash...

Fujifilm X-T1 camera
Fujinon XF18-135mm F3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR lens
Fujinon XF 23MM F1.4 R prime lens
Fujifilm EF-42 Shoe Mount Flash

In advance, thanks for any advice you guys and gals can give.

Shot with my new Fuji X-Pro1. I love this camera. Seriously considering dumping my Nikon gear to go full Fuji. #fullfuji   #Fujifilm  #X-Pro1
