There will be no meeting this Saturday, October 18.  We will meet again on October 25, for the STEM Merit Badge Day, co-sponsored by Bloomington-Normal Hackerspace and WD Boyce Council, BSA.  Volunteers for the merit badge day are always welcomed.  Send me an email if you are interested.

Everybody,

This week's meeting time has changed.  We will open up the space Saturday evening for anybody interested between 5-7 PM.  We are also looking for volunteers to help with some upcoming classes and activites, as well as people to help spread the word about the space during the upcoming academic year.

Stop by for more information!

I thought this was a nice article about plex with a high over view of what it can do.
Plex is the most significant thing to come to home media in a very, very long time. Let's check it out.

All,

As our group continues to grow, we have begun discussion about membership dues.  The officers of the group(Myself, Luke, and Alex R.) have created a potential dues structure which if approved, we will begin to follow in the month of May. Before we do that, it must be approved by the membership! Below is a short Google form that will serve as an electronic ballot forthis vote.

The vote will remain open for two weeks from today(May 4), after which point the form will be closed and the results will be announced. Please help contribute to this important group decision!

Dues VotingThis is an electronic voting ballot for establishing our hackerspace's member dues plan. This plan is as follows: Full Membership: $20.00/month Student Membership: 10.00/month(with presentation of a valid Student ID)

I also have a basic topo already lied out. I also think we should start taking about what we want to use (ie: openldap, and pfsense).

Might I recommend Zentyal?  It has a lot of that stuff in it (LDAP, PDC, etc).  pfSense for sure on the firewall, but Zentyal will be less of a headache as far as LDAP goes.  Especially because you can administer the domain using the Windows Remote Admin Tools.  Works pretty much like a normal Active Directory Domain Controller.

Everyone,

Brian and Cody cannot come in tonight to open the space, so we will not be meeting tonight. We are considering moving the meeting to Saturday if everyone is willing. I'm going to move the event to Saturday on our meetup calendar, please RSVP there if you are still able to go. Thanks!

Preliminary planning has begun on a series of guest speakers and workshops for the upcoming summer months.  The goals of this speaker series are as follows:

1. To help people interested in a subject learn more about that subject.
2. To provide a place for the community as a whole to come and learn about tech topics that they might otherwise not get a chance to.
3. To provide space for people interested in sharing their ideas with others to hold workshops, seminars, ect.

We are interested in almost anything you can think of as a presentation, but to get you started, here are some examples:

- Basic Linux
- Building a Computer on a Budget!
- Applications of Technology in the Classroom
- Simple Home Automation

Members are encouraged to submit presentations here:

VirtualBox is great for testing out a new operating system, but your virtual machines probably aren't that special when you first set them up. Here are a few tips for making them much easier to use--not to mention more powerful.

Everyone,
Just a reminder that our final meeting at Illinois State University's Studio TEaCH is this week!  If you have not come to one of our meetings here, be sure to stop by this week.  The space contains a wealth of technology with applications in the classroom, including a 3D printer!

We will also have on hand some assorted Raspberry Pi components that we will use to try and put together a retro gaming device!  We have 3 Pi's that are waiting for a purpose, so come by and give it your best shot!

Hope to see everyone there!

This very simple form will establish our first voting body for the group.  Respond "Yes" to this before March 12 if you would like to be a voting member of the group.  Future voting membership will be determined by a member's current status with dues.
