Using HamItUp + RTL to monitor HF but found that I was always running with the RTL's LNA at maximum gain. That was often not enough so I would turn on the AGC, which gives more gain for some reason. But that meant the AGC modulating weak signals with strong ones in the passband. So I decided to add some gain to the HamItUp.

I figured it would be best to put it after the filter so I cut between the RF filter and the mixer and added a little homemade board with a BG2817 MMIC, which gives 25dB with a noise figure of about 4. One bypass capacitor and one blocking capacitor were all that was otherwise needed.

I had some trouble dealing with the microscopic parts but eventually managed to assemble it. It works! There is always plenty of gain now, which makes it easier to manage the radio.

I just picked up one at 171 nmi (197miles/317km) here in NC, with just my DIY Collinear antenna made up of PVC pipe and RG6 coax cable. 16 - 11.6 cm sections fed through about 30' of that same cable...

Just wondering what software everyone is using with the RTL2832U based dongles. I just upgraded to one with a TCXO and I love that it's dead on frequency. I'm using SDR# but would like something different. What are you running?

Can someone help me to pipe Output oder SDR# to another Program? I so not get it done with virtual Cable.
