What is Twinvir?
Twinvir, a prescription medicine containing, Ledipasvir and Sofosbuvir, is used to treat chronic (lasting a long time) hepatitis C genotype 1, 4 & 6 infection in adults. It is not known if Ledipasvir and Sofosbuvir combination is safe and effective in children under 18 years of age.
How long does therapy with Twinvir needed?
Duration of treatment of Twinvir should be decided by the healthcare professional. With Twinvir, treatment length is only 8, 12 or 24 weeks, depending on the patients’ Hepatitis C condition, including whether or not they’ve been treated before, the level of virus in the body and how advanced the liver disease is (presence or absence of cirrhosis).
How can a patient take Twinvir?
Twinvir should be taken exactly as a healthcare provider advice to take it. Dose should not be changed unless a healthcare provider advice to change. Twinvir should be taken one tablet once a day with or without food.
What should a patient tell his or her healthcare provider before taking Twinvir?
Before taking Twinvir, patients should tell his or her healthcare provider if they:
- Have liver problems other than hepatitis C infection
- Have severe kidney problems or on dialysis
- Have any other medical complications
- Are pregnant or planning to conceive. It is not known if Ledipasvir and Sofosbuvir combination has teratogenic effect of foetus
- Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. It is not known if Ledipasvir and Sofosbuvir combination passes into breast milk
Patients should tell healthcare provider about all of the medicines they are taking.
Does Twinvir need to be taken with other medicines to treat genotype 1, 4 & 6 Hepatitis C?
No additional medicines are required. Twinvir one tablet taken once daily with or without food is sufficient.
What are the possible side effects of Twinvir?
The most common adverse reactions with treatment with Ledipasvir and Sofosbuvir combination for 8, 12, or 24 weeks are fatigue and headache.
After treatment is finished, how long will it take to find out if the patient is cured?
Being cured of Hepatitis C is defined as when measured at least three months after treatment is completed. Doctors will use a simple blood test to determine the success of treatment.
How should Twinvir be stored?
Twinvir should be stored at room temperature below 86 ˚F (30 ˚C).
