Help needed for JBoss & Eclipse

I am not a Java developer; I work on Dot Net and other platforms.

I installed JBoss tools on Eclipse Mars and used Server->New Server to install JBoss AS 6 and AS 7.1. Why these versions and not WildFly or others? Because my other team members use these.

From within Servers view, I can start JBoss 6 but not 7. I get three messages in the console:
12:46:40,021 INFO [org.jboss.modules] JBoss Modules version 1.1.1.GA
12:46:40,370 INFO [org.jboss.msc] JBoss MSC version 1.0.2.GA
12:46:40,451 INFO [] JBAS015899: JBoss AS 7.1.0.Final "Thunder" starting

After which nothing happens for a couple of minutes till Eclipse gives the time out error message.

From Googling, I see that the problem is that I only have JDK 1.8 (64-bit) on my system which JBoss 7 has an issue with.

So, how do I get the server to start?
