Going Cover to Cover with the new edition of Mage the Awakening.

I'm really liking it so far, it feels a lot more grounded and, well, interesting than the first ed did.

Putting aside the fact that it's a review of my book in particular, in this video the Savage GM shows just how to do an excellent video review!

I've put together a 28 page, system neutral, 6 level dungeon, called The Lapis Observatory as an illustrated zine. http://shop.swordfishislands.com

Contains 44 rooms, a "big boss monster", 4 plants, 7 monsters, 5 NPC adventurers, and 10 treasure items.

This zine is limited to 50 numbered copies. The cover and title page of each zine has been hand gilded. There are 5 different cover colors (shipped randomly).

Featuring Illustrations by:
Gabriel Hernandez (https://www.instagram.com/worthyenemies/)
+Billy Longino (https://megadungeoncomic.wordpress.com/)
+Eric Quigley (https://plus.google.com/103978694457030937705)

The dungeon and all content are from my system neutral hexcrawl setting Hot Springs Island, and this is very much a "sampler" of the project. Funds from these zines are going directly to the map maker and illustrator, so the setting can be 100% finished before we ever put it up on Kickstarter.

My Swordfish Islands collection is a great place to see more about the setting as a whole: https://plus.google.com/collection/05Cqb

-Eventually giving up on explaining any further, the Time Dinosaurs give the PCs a box with a big red button that the PCs figure is to teleport them back in an emergency, and dump them right in the middle of the demon-army/mecha-elf battlefield.

http://therpgpundit.blogspot.com/2016/06/dcc-campaign-update-unnecessarily.html
So, in our last adventure, the PCs had just been kidnapped by the Time Dinosaurs, who apparently took them back thousands of years to the early years of the great disaster, where they were observers of a catastrophic battle b...

I took a look at White Star some time back, and found it very much to my liking. It’s not that it’s anything particularly ground-breaking, it’s just a harkening back to the days of old, when rules were things that you had to figure out for yourself rather than having them all put forwards for you. That said, I’m a great fan of the science fiction of old, the books I grew up with, and so when I found a game that combined the two, well…

It had to be investigated…

Blog! This one's on using music to soundtrack your RPG sessions!

Do you fine folks use music in your games? If so, I'm curious if you have any additional insights. Lemme know!
Music is powerful. It's been a part of my life in many ways since I was young. I spent the better part of six years performing it, promoting it, eating1, breathing and sleeping it. During my first go-round in college - be...

+John Enfield Fair!

That pretty much sums up my experience with mismatched music - all the "not to do" stuff in the article. It's my hope that some of the stuff I've learned helps folks avoid those issues.

Having said that, not everything has to be for everybody ;)

About this community

This is a community for players of tabletop (non-computer) role playing games. Welcome in! Talk away - so long as it is about role playing, it's all good. Try to keep your language reasonable - remember there are a lot of folks out there who are playing RPGs, and not all of them are adults. Have Fun!

All of this should be obvious to game creators, but isn't.

This is a great checklist for game publishing. I'm mostly putting it here for my own edification, but it's a great read.

I’m a gaming junkie, especially where it comes to role-playing games. I’ve been gaming for decades, I have played or run at least 177 RPGs as of this writing, not counting different edi…

My group 1 team does the second playtest session. They look for more ogres, but do not find them. They look for bandits, and do find those. They fight, win, but not without some cost. The game continues to play well, so I continue to be happy.
