I am still writing about 'background NPCs' and their campaign impact. Today, what they imply about magic and magic items
My series on NPCs in 1e/OSR campaigns began with a discussion of 'the other guys'; NPCs who aren't placed by the DM, rolled up as followers or members of a guild, or part of a random encounter. The NPCs implied to be part o...

Less magic, more swords?  Many settings try it, some succeed.

If you want a low-ish fantasy setting, give King Arthur Pendragon a try.  You might like its completely unforgiving setting.
Hey hey!  Time once again for a #RPG   #Review !  So, let me present my review on King Arthur Pendragon! Interested in a hyper-realistic combat (and… - Ether RPG - Google+

Caleb and I will be interviewing Mike Olson, lead designer on the Atomic Robo RPG (powered by FATE) based on the Comics by Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener.

Anything you want us to ask him or talk about?

Hey fellow gamers. When i gm games i put a lot of time into drawing and creating tiny cardboard mini figs for my players to interact with. I have decided to share these characters in a new venture i am calling GM-Craft. the problem is that i do not have much of a catalogue just yet. This is where i need your help. I would like some votes about which fantasy creatures are the most common and thus the most likely to generate interest in my store. I will create a mini fig of the winning suggestion and anyone who votes will get this one for free. The person who suggests the winning creature will get my entire current catalogue for free.

My ongoing series on NPCs in your campaign continues, this time talking about the economic impact of all those leveled NPCs
This week I have been discussing NPCs with levels and army sizes. While fairly specific to a 1e campaign these ideas can fit anything from Chivalry & Sorcery to Traveller or novels if you squint hard enough. That said, my f...

Very cool. I appreciate the work and thought out into the article. I've done something roughly similar for 3.5.

So +David Guyll  and I had a pretty good conversation via hangout chat. I asked him if I might ask him some questions over email and then share them here. Not only did he say yes, but his answers are sure to entertain and inf...

About this community

This is a community for players of tabletop (non-computer) role playing games. Welcome in! Talk away - so long as it is about role playing, it's all good. Try to keep your language reasonable - remember there are a lot of folks out there who are playing RPGs, and not all of them are adults. Have Fun!

We have our newest addition to the Curriculum, A one-page flow-chart dungeon by Andrew "That One GM" Young. It's system agnostic and would make a great dungeon crawl for a new DM or group. There are no stats included for any monsters or dangers, so you will have to include them yourself (again system Agnostic). I hope you'll check it out.

Just a reminder, that we are always taking submissions for NPC's, PC builds, dungeons (maps) adventures, modules or whole campaigns. Send your submissions into us at Michael@therpgacademy(dot)com

I am looking for a classic dungeon crawl RPG to play with my 11 going on 12 year old sun. Pathfinder seems a bit of overkill for this. Any recommendations. New 5e starter box? Something else?

I'll put a plug in for Basic Fantasy RPG.  It's a fantastic, completely-free 'clone' that has a ton of support and really hits the sweet-spot for me.

I think about my character from Erik Tenkar's S&W game, Rul Scararm, converting him to the new DnD rules. As Peter noted, the conversion from OSR to DnD5 is very easy.
My Swords and Wizardry character in the game I play with +Erik Tenkar is Rul Scararm, a former mercenary fighter. Inspired in no small part by +Peter V. Dell'Orto converting his own character, Mirado, into the new basic rules...

Tactical Advantages are just one type of Action that you can use in Chronos to mix things up and make combat more dynamic. Check out more about their uses at http://chronosrpg.com/2014/06/30/tactical-momentum/

Digital Copies are available at the site if you like what you see. The SRD is free!
