I was lately commisioned to make the map of the french #RPG Skull and Bones available in a couple of days. The game itself is a spin-off of Tenebrae RPG (for which I've already made maps) and its setting is an uchronic Europe at the beginning of the World War 1 with occult societies, demons and sorcerers.
Poster map original size is 19x27"

So, old school folks, remember that you can download a PDF of pretty much every book for every edition of Talislanta for free. #osr #ft

These guys seem to enjoy flying under the radar. They do very little product pushing for their kickstarter and things like this Q&A that's running tonight at 7pm CDT. I hope their lack of self-promotion doesn't sink the KS. I really like the setting of Cape Noire and hope to see it succeed.

A new Unearthed Arcana for D&D is out.
Welcome to Unearthed Arcana, a monthly workshop where D&D R&D shows off a variety of new and interesting pieces of RPG design for use at your gaming table. You can think of the material presented in this series as similar to the first wave of the fifth edition playtest. These game mechanics are ...

About this community

This is a community for players of tabletop (non-computer) role playing games. Welcome in! Talk away - so long as it is about role playing, it's all good. Try to keep your language reasonable - remember there are a lot of folks out there who are playing RPGs, and not all of them are adults. Have Fun!

The OSR owes them nothing. Not the Forge in general, or Ron Edwards as its architect in particular.

Even the arguable resurgence of self-publishing in the last decade was not 'thanks to' the Forge, it was thanks to the invention of the PDF, the kindle, and Lulu/Createspace (that is to say, the rise of self-publishing in general).

I've also had several Forgists or Storygamers, in arguments with me, claim I'm "not a game designer" because the OSR is just imitative and not "real design", since I don't use jenga blocks or whatever.

And I've spoken to several publishers of small press games who expressed their frustration at the way that the "indie game" crowd created a little coterie that shut out anyone who made games from an ideology that they didn't like (i.e. regular RPGs, rather than storygames). If you're one of these, and brave enough to say so, and to comment about how you were shut out, I'd sure like to hear it - I know you're out there, because you've said it to me before, but I don't want to be the one to out you.

Odd. Thought they were deliberately NOT release the "core" rules for any edition. Especially odd with 3.5, since almost all the information is part of the SRD. Still, cool to see it. If/when I start up a 3.X campaign again, I'll pick it up!

This installment of Violent Resolution looks at the game mechanics underpinning the combat systems of my five chosen systems. It looks at what kind of agency and choices are available depending on how one resolves the basic facets of a resolution mechanic: action, opposition, and effect.

Today, I posted a first draft of the Fantastic Adventures (Monster) Hunter class to my blog. The Hunter is a fighter-type who specializes in going after undead, demons, and other supernatural monsters.
A few days ago I listed the six major classes I am thinking of for Fantastic Adventures in a post (Fantastic Adventures: Initial Thoughts on Classes). I have the non-caster classes written up now -- at least as early drafts. Yesterday, I posted the first draft of The Fighter.

For the time being, we've set up two alternative ways to buy our stuff, and we're looking at a third. If you can think of any other options, let us know!

Also, some GM Screen updates.

You might have noticed that our store isn't up on DriveThruRPG anymore. This is because we've been suspended for 30 days (which started two days ago as of this post). I won't get into the specifics, but I will say that it's equal parts confusing and absurd, perhaps with a—depending on how data ...
