A talk by Jeff Clune describing artificial intelligence (AI), specifically deep learning (aka deep neural networks), and how it will change the world, especially economically. Note: this talk purposefully emphasized the contributions of Jeff's lab (the EvolvingAI Lab at the University of Wyoming) because it was for a Wyoming audience interested in hearing about work in this area being done within the state (and funded in part by the state).

On Numenta's Neo Cortex AI
Geoffrey Hinton and his Google's team are not alone to be inspired by the architecture of the cortex. The company Numenta is trying to reverse engineer the neocortex and has published a paper on « A Theory of How Columns in the Neocortex Enable Learning the Structure of the World ».

Techniques for visualizing and understanding neural networks published in distill.pub

Hello Everyone,
I love learning new things and am interested in nanotechnology used in a DDS. I look forward when disease and other medical problems can be fixed with these nanobots delivering meds or t cells bringing relief from pain or cancer. It is a wonderment to me and I can not wait until the future catches up to our dreams. Peace out.

Often we find loose inspiration from biology to motivate our machine learning models. The work by Hubel and Wiesel 1 inspired the Neocognitron model 2 which in turn inspired the Convolutional Neural Network 3 as we know it today. In this work, we go in the other direction where we try to explain a physical feature we observe in biology using the computational models developed in deep learning. In the future, these results may lead us to think about new ways of designing the front end of active vision systems, modeled after the foveated sampling lattice of the primate retina. We hope this virtuous cycle of inspiration continues in the future.
