Tommac photography

Introduce Yourself  -

Hi I'm Tom. I'm a commercial photographer based in brisbane.
I shot this gazpacho soup in a kitchen of a Michelin star restaurant. Lighting space was at a premium so I bounced off the white tiles but put a shoot through skrim between the light and the food and bounced back with white boards. the soup was placed on white foam core and processed to pure white for a super clean look.

+James Gaffney you could be right, but it tasted pretty good to me. The chef got a Michelin star shortly after the shoot so he must be doing something right.

Eat Drink Laos

Introduce Yourself  -

Hello! I'm an Australian freelance food and travel writer currently living in Laos. I have a food blog called Eat Drink Laos and I'm enjoying exploring food photography with my new Sony RX100iii. I'd like to understand how to better capture natural light in my images, to arrange the angle of the subject, the camera and the light. Looking forward to learning from you all.

As a Food Marketing Consultant, I shoot with my IPhone (A LOT) to support my client's social media feeds. It's all about telling the story of their business; selection, variety and freshness. At this location I work on a small dark wooden table in front of a North facing window every Wednesday morning. (In this shot: menu of tarts & pies for the week...)

I often drop in textiles and other backdrops but the location remains the same. The resulting news feed is constant in shadow, colour and tone. I never use Instagram filters on food shots, instead I opt for about 20% Lux, up to 10% contrast and adjust brightness and warmth as needed. This gives a natural, high quality look --- all on my IPhone 5S. Photography about composition and light, you don't have to have an expensive DSLR to shoot great photos!

Hi, everyone! I'm a food photographer in northern New Jersey and really look forward to seeing all the delicious creations we're sharing here. This photo is from a recent shoot with Bang Cookies in Jersey City, NJ. We decided to go all out for the last, decadent shot of the day! We stacked the trimmed cookies on skewers and had them sitting on a glass surface (for easy cleanup) with a softbox to the left and slightly in front.

Karen Waples

Introduce Yourself  -

Hello from Brisbane Australia!  My name is Karen and I am a keen food photographer.  I have been shooting generally for many years, and in the past 6-7 years did Events (non Profits), Sporting and Wildlife. But as age and time catches up, I changed my focus to food.  I still have many things to learn, and hope that I will learn more here.
My image below in one I took back in 2014, and taken on Nikon D90 - F3.5 1/20s ISO 640
My goal with my food is to have someone say "yum"!  If I achieve that, then all is good!

Hey everyone! My name is Jesse. I've been working as a people photographer (weddings and families) for a few years and found that I'm more passionate about working with food and businesses. I don't have a large portfolio of food yet, but it'll get there. This seems like a straight to the point and helpful group, so I'm happy to be a part of it. Below is a morning cup of hot water with real steam (heated twice because I took too long the first time and all the steam disappeared), basic editing in LR. Lit by a speedlight from the back left and reflector from the front right, black seamless backdrop. Canon 5D2, 105mm, ISO 100, 1/200, f11. CC welcome!

Hello everyone! Thank you for accepting my request! I just started with photography a few months ago, and immediately fell in love shooting food. As a beginner, my main problems are composition/framing and food styling.

Here is a recent dessert picture of mine during Easter.

100mm, f/6.3, 1/13th sec, ISO 100 with window light from the left

The crease on the napkin bothers me (only noticed it at the end of the day), but my PS skills are bad, so I just left it. Another thing I am unsure of is the number of glasses. Maybe one would have been enough, and I could shoot it closer. What do you think? Would love some critique :)

Thanks again!

Your shot is very powerful. There is a lot going on and no place for the eye to rest.  Usually, uneven groups are preferable to even numbers.
It might work better if you focused on one hero and blurred or cropped the rest. That way, the eye would be led to the subject.
I don't see a problem with the fold of the napkin.
