This very simple yet beautiful little chapel is situated on a point that separates Santal Bay and Jinek Bay (Lifou, Loyalty Islands, New Caledonia). The path to the chapel is breathtaking. Not only because the walk is sinuous, steep and narrow and you'll feel every muscle in your legs ache (just a little) but also because the path leads you into a tunnel of trees with their branches meeting above your head to completely surround you. The humidity is a touch higher through here and there's a noticeable, lovely smell of earth and wood. You still can't see the chapel as you come out the other end but people heading back down tell you that's it's not too far. So you keep going. But your breath is taken away, once again, as you realise you're above the canopy of the forest with it's foliage leading all the way to Jinek Bay (on the left) and Santal Bay (on the right). The view is spectacular. A few minutes later you arrive at the chapel. On a point. Above everything. Isolated. You think to yourself, some people make this little journey every Sunday.
