La Palma Milky Airglow All Sky
Taken while on holiday in La Palma. Behind the hill is the glow from Los Llanos. The Milky Way arches overhead, and the sky a gentle green from the atmospheric airglow. Well worth getting up early to witness, just before dawn.

The Needle Galaxy, or NGC 4565, is an edge-on spiral galaxy in the constellation Coma Berenices. This is a 10-minute stacked image using 15-second subs at ISO 5000. Equipment included a Canon 6D, Antares Focal Reducer and Meade 12” LX90 telescope. I will hopefully add additional data to this as time permits, it is a beauty. Burnham calls it, “The largest of the edgewise spiral galaxies, and undoubtedly the most famous object of its type” (Robert J. Burnham Jr., Burnham’s Celestial Handbook, Volume 2, Chamaeleon Through Orion).

Hey +EarthSky! Here is my shot of Mars at opposition. We've been fighting with weather and seeing conditions this year in New England, though I pushed through and captured this shot on Monday morning, May 23rd at Frosty Drew Observatory in Charlestown, RI. I will keep at it for a better shot over the next few weeks. Enjoy! -Scott
