Selfishness Is Not Only Sin It Is Also Spiritual Death

Matthew 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

A) It seems to be saving one’s life to be governed by self interest to avoid self denial and sacrifice to live to gather about one
B) nd into one’s hands as much as possible of the things that give comfort pleasure or power
C) But if this be the motive the life is really thrown away
D) That is the deep meaning of our Lord’s words Self seeking is self losing

1) We have not really learned how to live at all until we have learned to live for Christ
2) What we keep for ourselves we lose it is only what we give away that we really keep
3) Selfishness is not only sin it is also spiritual death.

4) The way to save one’s life says the Master is to lose it
5) Christ Himself lost His life poured it out in loving self sacrifice for the good of others
6) It seemed a waste but was it a waste He found it again in greater glory
7) Disciples lost thy life's for Christ renounced everything for His sake suffered everything and gave his very life at the last but did he lose anything by his self sacrifice
8) A young girl beautiful cultured, honoured, with a lovely home and many friends turned away from ease refinement and luxury
9) And went to teach the freed slaves She lived among them and gave out her rich young life in efforts to help them up and save them
10) One day she sickened and died and her friends said Oh what a waste of precious life But was it a waste

11) All who follow Christ truly make this choice between saving and losing their life that is between making self interest and Christ the motive in living
12) In following Christ we may never be called actually to make great sacrifices but that we are ready to make them even to the utmost is implied in our covenant of discipleship
13) Yet this losing is saving it is sowing the golden wheat in the ground losing it for the time to reap therefrom a rich harvest by and by

2 Peter 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

14) When God made thee a believer He meant to try thee and when He gave thee promises and bade thee trust them
15) He gave such promises as are suitable for times of tempest and tossing
16) Dost thou think that God makes shams like some that have made belts for swimming which were good to exhibit in a shop but of no use in the sea

17) We have all heard of swords which were useless in war and even of shoes which were made to sell but were never meant to walk in God’s shoes are of iron and brass
18) And you can walk to Heaven in them without their ever wearing out and His life belts you may swim a thousand Atlantics upon them and there will be no fear of your sinking
19) His Word of promise is meant to be tried and proved.

20) There is nothing Christ dislikes more than for His people to make a show thing of Him and not to use Him He loves to be employed by us. 21) Covenant blessings are not meant to be looked at only but to be appropriated
22) Even our Lord Jesus is given to us for our present use
23) Thou dost not make use of Christ as thou oughtest to do
24) O man I beseech you do not treat God’s promises as if they were curiosities for a museum but use them as every day sources of comfort
25) Trust the Lord whenever your time of need comes on
26) Go to the deeps of God’s promise and claim whatsoever ye will
27) The blessing of God will not fail thee, His Word He will surely fulfill
28) Now can God say no to something He has promised

Dear Reader Only Jesus Has Power To Forgive Sins Waste No Time For Any Name

Matthew 9:6 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

A) Behold one of the great Physician’s mightiest arts He has power to forgive sin
B) While here He lived below before the ransom had been paid before the blood had been literally sprinkled on the mercy seat He had power to forgive sin
C) Has He not power to do it now that He has died

1)What power must dwell in Him who to the utmost farthing has faithfully discharged the debts of all His people
2) He has boundless power now that He has finished transgression and made an end of sin.
3) If you doubt it see Him rising from the dead behold Him in ascending splendor raised to the right hand of God
4) Hear Him pleading before the eternal Father pointing to His wounds urging the merit of His sacred passion
5) What power to forgive is here He has ascended on high and received gifts for men
6) He is exalted on high to give repentance and remission of sins
7) The most crimson sins are removed by the crimson of His blood

8) At this moment dear reader whatever your sinfulness Christ has power to pardon power to pardon you and millions such as you are
9) A word will speak it He has nothing more to do to win your pardon all the atoning work is done
10) He can in answer to your tears forgive your sins today and make you know it
11) He can breathe into your soul at this very moment a peace with God which passes all understanding which shall spring from perfect remission of your manifold iniquities.
12) Do you believe that I trust you believe it
13) May you experience now the power of Jesus to forgive sin
14) Waste no time in applying to the Physician of souls but hasten to Him now

Colossians 3:4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory (or 5-6)

D) Paul’s marvelously rich expression indicates that Christ is the source of our life
E) You has He quickened who were dead in trespasses and sins
F) That same voice which brought Lazarus out of the tomb raised us to newness of life.

15) He is now the substance of our spiritual life. It is by His life that we live
16) He is in us the hope of glory the spring of our actions the central thought which moves every other thought.
17) Christ is the sustenance of our life
18) What can the Christian feed upon but Jesus’ flesh and blood
19) This is the bread which comes down from heaven that a man may eat thereof and not die 20) O way worn pilgrims in this wilderness of sin you never get a morsel to satisfy the hunger of your spirits except you find it in Him
21) Christ is the solace of our life
22) All our true joys come from Him and in times of trouble His presence is our consolation
23) There is nothing worth living for but Him and His loving kindness is better than life

24) Christ is the object of our life
25) As the ship speeds towards the port so hastens the believer towards the haven of his Savior’s bosom
26) As flies the arrow to its goal so flies the Christian towards the perfecting of his fellowship with Christ Jesus
27) As the soldier fights for his captain and is crowned in his captain’s victory so the believer contends for Christ and gets his triumph out of the triumphs of his Master For him to live is Christ

28) Christ is the exemplar of our life
29) Where there is the same life within there will there must be to a great extent the same developments without and if we live in near fellowship with the Lord Jesus we shall grow like Him
30) We shall set Him before us as our Divine copy and we shall seek to tread in His footsteps until He shall become the crown of our life in glory
31) Oh! how safe how honored, how happy is the Christian since Christ is our life

Satan Is Vigilant In Christian's Life's Satan Is Sure To Hinder Us When We Are Earnest In Prayer

1 Thessalonians 2:18 Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.

A) Since the first hour in which goodness came into conflict with evil it has never ceased to be true in spiritual experience that Satan hinders us

1) From all points of the compass all along the line of battle in the vanguard and in the rear at the dawn of day and in the midnight hour Satan hinders us
2) If we toil in the field he seeks to break the ploughshare if we build the wall he labors to cast down the stones if we would serve God in suffering or in conflict everywhere Satan hinders us

3) He hinders us when we are first coming to Jesus Christ
4) Fierce conflicts we had with Satan when we first looked to the cross and lived
5) Now that we are saved he endeavors to hinder the completeness of our holy character. 6) You may be congratulating yourself I have hitherto walked consistently no man can challenge my integrity
7) Beware of boasting for your virtue will yet be tried Satan will direct his engines against that very virtue for which you are the most famous. 8) If you have been hitherto a firm believer your faith will before long be attacked
9) If you have been as meek as Moses expect to be tempted to speak unadvisedly with your lips
10) The birds will peck at your ripest fruit and the wild boar will dash his tusks at your choicest vines.

11) He hinders our importunity and weakens our faith in order that if possible we may miss the blessing
12) Nor is Satan less vigilant in obstructing Christian work
13) There was never a revival of religion, without a revival of his opposition
14) As soon as Ezra and Nehemiah begin to labor Sanballat and Tobiah are stirred up to hinder them
15) What then We are not alarmed because Satan hinders us for it is a proof that we are on the Lord’s side and are doing the Lord’s work and in His strength we shall win the victory and triumph over our adversary

Song of Solomon 1:4 Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

B) Believers love Jesus with a deeper affection than they dare to give to any other being
C) They would sooner lose father and mother than part with Christ
D) They hold all earthly comforts with a loose hand but they carry Him fast locked in their hearts

16) They voluntarily deny themselves for His sake but they cannot be driven to deny Him
17) It is scant love which the fire of persecution can dry up the true believer’s love is a deeper stream than this
18) Men have labored to divide the faithful from their Master but their attempts have been fruitless in every age
19) Neither crowns of honor now frowns of anger have untied this more than Gordian knot. 20) This is no passing attachment which the world’s power may at length dissolve
21) Neither man nor devil have found a key which opens this lock
22) Never has the craft of Satan been more futile than when he has exercised it in seeking to rend in sunder this union of two divinely welded hearts.

23) It is written and nothing can blot out the sentence
24) The upright love You The intensity of the love of the upright however is not so much to be judged by what it appears as by what the upright long for
25) It is our daily lament that we cannot love enough
26) Would that our hearts were capable of holding more and reaching further.

27) Alas our longest reach is but a span of love and our affection is but as a drop of a bucket compared with His deserts
28) Measure our love by our intentions, and it is high indeed ‘tis thus we trust our Lord does judge of it
29) Oh that we could give all the love in all hearts in great mass a gathering together of all loves to Him who is altogether lovely

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS WHO IS KING OF KINGS JESUS CHRIST

Matthew 22:42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he They say unto him, The son of David 43 He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying 44 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool 45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son 46 And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

A) Lift up your heads O ye gates even lift them up ye everlasting doors and the King of glory shall come in
B) Who is this King of glory The Lord of hosts he is the King of glory
C) He hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written

1) Unto you which believe he is precious but unto them which be disobedient the stone which the builders disallowed the same is made the head of the corner
2) Christ crucified unto the Jews a stumblingblock and unto the Greeks foolishness but unto them which are called both Jews and Greeks Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

3) I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord for whom I have suffered the loss of all things
4) And do count them but dung that I may win Christ Lord thou knowest all things thou knowest that I love thee.

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you (or 27-31)

5) If thou knewest the gift of God and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink thou wouldest have asked of him and he would have given thee living water
6) If ye being evil know how to give good gifts unto your children how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him
7) Verily, verily I say unto you Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name he will give it you
8) Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask and ye shall receive that your joy may be full Ye have not because ye ask not.

9) When the Spirit of truth is come he will guide you into all truth for he shall not speak of himself but whatsoever he shall hear that shall he speak and he will shew you things to come He shall glorify me for he shall receive of mine and shall shew it unto you.
10)They rebelled and vexed his Holy Spirit therefore he was turned to be their enemy and He fought against them.
