Introducing the Meridian Project
Exploring the Niantic social experience by the players, for the players. What is the Meridian Project?
The Meridian Project was founded by people who wanted to formalize an outlet that could highlight the social experiences provided by Niantic and its various products. Our initial focus will be on Ingress but will expand as we grow. While talking to other Ingress players, it became clear that the social interactions the game fosters is one of the main reasons people continue to play the game. The founders of the Meridian Project wanted a way to enhance that social experience. Think of the Meridian Project like a hub with player projects as the spokes connecting to it.What are the player projects?
The first player project that the Meridian Project will host is +Kelly Kolton
's “Ingress Happy Hour.” Kelly started hosting a weekly Hangout for Ingress players starting in December 2012. It is as the name implies - a video hangout to have an informal discussion about topics such as player’s personal experiences, the storyline, and other thoughts about Ingress. You never know what will be discussed or who will pop in. Don’t be surprised if Niantic Labs own Joe Philley or John Hanke, founder of Niantic Labs, stops by to chat. The hangout is held Tuesdays at 9:00 pm EST/1:00AM GMT. You can join the invite list for the Ingress Happy Hour by requesting to be added at http://goo.gl/s1Fa1Y
. Hangouts are limited to the first 10 video participants. The chat room is always open though. Get there early to reserve your spot!
The second agent created content that the Meridian Project will host is a show titled "Behind the Scanner." This weekly show will be initially hosted by +Andrew Krug
, +Daphne D.
, and +Jorge Pedrero
. Each week the show will feature one Enlightened and one Resistance agent from around the world for a 20 minute chat session with each person. "Behind the Scanner" will explore the people playing Ingress rather than discussing the game itself directly. "Behind the Scanner" will be hosted live via a Hangout On Air starting Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 9:00 pm EST/01:00 AM GMT. Who founded the Meridian Project?
Andrew Krug, Daphne D., and Kelly Kolton. Special thanks to Jorge Pedrero for agreeing to bring a Resistance perspective from outside the USA to Behind the Scanner. How can my project be hosted by the Meridian Project?
Pitch us your idea. Follow us and tag us in a private post explaining what it is you want to do. We would love to have fellow players write about neat social experiences, gather Ingress-related craft ideas, create an Internet radio station for players to listen to while playing Ingress, and anything else that enhances the social experience.
