Where is Sherlock Holmes in the opium den ?

In the Adventure of the Man with the twisted lip, Dr Watson, to help a friend of his wife, get down in an opium den. There, he found his fellow Holmes disguised as an old men.

- I suppose, Watson, said Holmes, that you imagine that I have added opium smoking to cocaïne injections, and all the other little weaknesses on which you have favoured me with your medical views.
I come there to find an enemy, I am in the midst of a very remarkable inquiry.

In 1869 Gustave Doré, the French illustrator of Perrault´s Tales, with the journalist Jerrold Blanchard explored the city of London, London slums as well fashionable London. A book was published illustrated with engravings, like a photographic reporting.

Here is the opium den where Watson met Holmes disguised. On the left, there is a man with a crutch who is watching us. Sherlock Holmes perhaps ?...

Believe it or not, there's a parallel universe out there.

+James O'Leary Unfortunately, it's not Matt Frewer because he acted as the character in 2001+ and the statue was erected in 1999.  I thought it was based on Basil Rathbone but I was wrong.  Having googled for information, I found out that the statue is based on the actor, Sidney Paget, 1891/1892.  I learn something new every day!!! ☺

A rather unique reimagining of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
"Out there fell a cascade of children's bricks." [TWIS] For many of those who enjoy reading the original Sherlock Holmes stories, the illustrations of Sidney Paget have traditionally brought those scenes to life visually. W...

The Sign of Four
Hey guys! Sherlock Holmes returns in this fantastic novel, where a man is desperate to get his hands on an Indian treasure, and where a wild chase down the river Thames will reveal more than Holmes or Watson thinks. And there is more to be found, and Watson discovers...I look back and decide if it lived up to "A Study in Scarlet", or was it just another mediocre detective story? Find out in my review!

Break out the chocolates and flowers - it's time to discuss love and romance in the Sherlock Holmes stories in the latest episode of our podcast.

My review of 'The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes' PART FOUR OF FOUR

Hey guys!

In this review, I look back on Sherlock Holmes in 'The Adventure of the Naval Treaty' and 'The Final Problem'. At last, my review of 'The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes' is completed by these two striking cases.

Professor James Moriarty! Criminal genius, smart enough to outwit Holmes himself. Will he defeat Holmes, or will Holmes prove to be too good?

Check it out at my blog and be sure to comment!

Also be sure to look at my other three previous reviews of 'The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes'!

How much of Conan Doyle's own conservatism made its way into the Sherlock Holmes stories?
He was a Victorian libertarian—and imperial conservative.

Have you ever seen those four-letter abbreviations used for the stories and wondered what they were?

I had no clue there were some out there who had an issue with it, just thought it was taken as is and no fuss.  When I was a young Sherlockian, I thought the abbreviations were easy to learn and rather clever (still do).  I have actually tried fooling around with some for episodes of Sherlock (PINK, BANK, GAME for example)

Help - quick list of top 10 locations in London from canon?

I've read some of Doyle's stories but not them all (it's been years since). I need to come up with a top 10 list of locations set in London that appeared in the original canon (written by Doyle), for a project I am working on.

Just wondering if anyone deep into Holmes canon could rhyme off a few of their most memorable locations (set in London) from the stories?

Thanks in advance.
Stephen

You might also consult the book "Sherlock Holmes for Dummies," by Steven Doyle and David A. Crowder. It devotes several pages to a list of the Top Ten Sherlockian places to visit, nine of which are in London, and gives a brief sketch of the history and significance of each.
