What's your favorite Sherlock Holmes story that occurs in the spring? Maybe we discussed it here.
by Scott Monty May 15, 2016 "See how beautifully the spring works" [STUD] Spring is here! Suh-per-ing is here! Life it skittles and life is beer... You may not have realized this, but more than a quarter of the Sh...

The Sign of Four
Hey guys! Sherlock Holmes returns in this fantastic novel, where a man is desperate to get his hands on an Indian treasure, and where a wild chase down the river Thames will reveal more than Holmes or Watson thinks. And there is more to be found, and Watson discovers...I look back and decide if it lived up to "A Study in Scarlet", or was it just another mediocre detective story? Find out in my review!

“Elementary, my dear Watson“, sometimes quoted as, “Elementary, dear Watson“, is one of those phrases that everybody knows the character of Sherlock Holmes said. You know, just like everyone knows that Kirk said “Beam me up Scotty” and Darth Vader said, “Luke, I am your father”. The thing is, none of those characters ever said any of those things. They [...]

A great discussion of the impact of Europe on the Sherlock Holmes Canon.

The connections of Sherlock Holmes and the European continent are many. Travel with us outside of London as we explore the many influences of Europe in the stories.
by Scott Monty June 15, 2016 "Oh, he has a European fame, has he?" [REDC] While Sherlock Holmes is firmly rooted in London, the connections to Europe in the Sherlock Holmes stories are many. But have you ever ...

Where is Sherlock Holmes in the opium den ?

In the Adventure of the Man with the twisted lip, Dr Watson, to help a friend of his wife, get down in an opium den. There, he found his fellow Holmes disguised as an old men.

- I suppose, Watson, said Holmes, that you imagine that I have added opium smoking to cocaïne injections, and all the other little weaknesses on which you have favoured me with your medical views.
I come there to find an enemy, I am in the midst of a very remarkable inquiry.

In 1869 Gustave Doré, the French illustrator of Perrault´s Tales, with the journalist Jerrold Blanchard explored the city of London, London slums as well fashionable London. A book was published illustrated with engravings, like a photographic reporting.

Here is the opium den where Watson met Holmes disguised. On the left, there is a man with a crutch who is watching us. Sherlock Holmes perhaps ?...

Believe it or not, there's a parallel universe out there.
"running on parallel lines" [HOUN] Someone asked me recently what I think about Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes movies – do I really like them, even though their resemblance to Conan Doyle’s original is so little? My answer w...

+James O'Leary Unfortunately, it's not Matt Frewer because he acted as the character in 2001+ and the statue was erected in 1999.  I thought it was based on Basil Rathbone but I was wrong.  Having googled for information, I found out that the statue is based on the actor, Sidney Paget, 1891/1892.  I learn something new every day!!! ☺
