For those of us who are dependants or currently schooling, you may have heard these words at one time or another from your parents/guardians when you ask them for money during the school term, semester or holidays: “There’s no #money
, manage this”, “Money does not grow on trees”, “What do you need money for?”, "I just gave you Nxxxx two weeks ago, what did you do with it?" and so forth.
In this series, we are going to look at various ways you can earn a small but steady #income
while at #school
so you don't have to bother your parents, relatives and guardians that often. 1: Hair – Make it, Style it, Lock it. Shave it.
Everyone has hair...we only differ in how we wear it : long, short, unruly, neat, natural, extensions, curls, relaxed, you name it. Hair is one thing people will always spend money on, why?, because we all want to look good, trendy and cool. And therein lies the opportunity we'll be looking at in this episode.
Even in times of economic difficulty, ladies will spend a ton of money on various, creative hairstyles while guys will go hungry just to maintain that suave look. You can cash in on this emotional need by setting up your very own makeshift salon on campus!
The truth is, getting involved in hair-styling only requires as much capital as you can spare. You can open a proper salon if you have the funds or operate from your hostel room (referrals are important for this model). The important things are the basics; clippers, mirrors, combs (guys) and attachments, extensions, nails et al (ladies).
After that all you really need is a twist the makes you different from every other person offering the same service. It could be pricing, style or a niche like dread locking. You could also introduce a magnet polarity model by giving hair cuts to guys if you're a lady or styling lady's hair if you are a guy!
There's tons of money in hair...You just have to be creative.
