ATTENTION: Teachers, School Administrators, and District Technology Leaders

Applications for the 2014 Student Technology Showcase are now being accepted.  Teachers must submit the (attached) application by November 1, 2013.  The application is also available online.
Please visit the Student Technology Showcase website and click on “Apply”: http://www.k12hsn.org/resources/showcase/gallery/index.php/ocde/

Each year, the Orange County Department of Education searches for the best student curriculum technology integration projects in Orange County. Selected student representatives and their teachers will present their projects at the OC Student Technology Showcase on February 8, 2014.  Three to four groups will be asked to present at the annual State Student Technology Showcase in Palm Springs on March 22, 2014.  In addition to these benefits, OCDE often highlights the selected projects in its newsletters, and draws upon the teachers' expertise in meetings and videoconferences. A statewide website is available to showcase videos of all of the counties selected projects: http://showcase.k12hsn.org

WHO SHOULD APPLY?
Any K-12 Orange County public school teacher or group of teachers who integrate technology into a curricular topic in an innovative and creative way.  The result should be a project that engages students in exciting ways that would not be possible without technology.  Students will share their projects with a large audience, in a science fair format, providing them an invaluable learning experience.

WIN A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CERTIFICATE - valued at $250!
Teachers' whose students present at the OC Student Technology Showcase will receive a certificate for professional development, valued at up to $250.  Certificates can be applied to any course or series listed in Promising Practices offered by OCDE Educational Technology.  Certificates valid January 1, 2014 through December 12, 2014.

Google is now supporting edX with development time. A quick explanation would be that for open source projects that are used by businesses, one of the ways businesses can contribute back to the project is to essentially donate development time to a project in the form of developers that are paid to spend some of their work time contributing to those open source projects. It would appear that Google will be donating development time to edX open courseware! This is great news for online education!
