Whether it's a simple game jam entry or a long-term passion project, your game needs to feel alive in the hands of players. In this tutorial, I'll share ideas for bringing your game to life, and demonstrate what happens when you apply every one of those ideas to a simple game demo. | Difficulty: Intermediate; Length: Long; Tags: Game Design, Polish, UX Design, Game Art, Game Art Effects, Game Audio

NEW: What all Game Designers should know about analytics

- Hope you'll enjoy it ;-)
As game designers, we tend to perceive our activity as a mix of art and science. After all, game design is deeply linked to psychology, as well as design! The design part is pretty straightforward and well-documented. There is plenty of reading on the topic, starting with Jesse Schell’s famous textbook. It is different with [...]

Hey guys, if you are a Substance Designer user, here is a small tutorial I made with SD5 (which has been released at #gdc2015 .
I hope it can be useful.

Ready to take 11 minutes of my french accent ?

I just made a new small tutorial about the new Dynamic gradient node, and how to use it in order  to get more control on the diffuse color.

Feedback welcome !

Have you ever wanted to show Your game skills to friends?
Today, as I was sitting in coffee shop, reading monday newspaper, sipping on some freshly brewed coffey, I thought to myself - what if I combine ADB tool with some simple Video-To-Gif conversion  app? Wouldn't it be cool to share, for example, some game action captured on your smartphone or tablet?

After my morning routine I was busy so right now it's 5pm and I finally had some time to toy around this idea. Turns out its doable and very easy. I downloaded App called GifMaker to my Galaxy Note, I opened folder with ADB tool on my computer, opened command prompt in that folder, typed first "adb shell" then "screenrecord --verbose --size 1280x720 --bit-rate 6000000 /sdcard/video_0.mp4", then went and played a bit on my tablet. After video was captured all I had to do is open GifMaker, it found video file on the device, setting up was easy, took 10 minutes to process the conversion, the result is below.

This week's Game Art tutorial is out! How to draw with selections tools.

This video exposes the main selection tools we care about as game artists. It is not a very common approach among 2d game artists, but a useful one regardless!

Hmm, you raised an actually interesting point there, but what do you actually mean by the term legal action? That does matter a lot in this case. And another thing, the creators of those engines aren't forcing you to use their engines. So it won't be possible that you can take an action on them.

Being a game developer  -

Being a mobile game developer is not as easy as it seems. Especially if you are an #indiedev . Just designing, coding and publishing the app are not the only steps involved.

There is also a very important step: MARKETING which most of the good "coders" struggle with, not because they are not good at it. But because they simply don't have enough time to dedicate to this huge task.

I recently published my first game on #iOS  app store. Check it out here: https://itunes.apple.com/in/app/hit-the-tile/id970189480?mt=8
I would really appreciate if someone can make a score greater than 52 :P

I am not saying it is a very good game or something that would go viral but I am just trying to point out that if you just build a game and put it on the store then maybe no one would download it because no one knows about it.

So if you are out there building anything, keep in mind beforehand that you must be prepared to promote it.
Get Hit The Tile on the App Store. See screenshots and ratings, and read customer reviews.

I came across something interesting and potentially very powerful called GameGuru. It's new and you can use it to easily make first person games. It's on Steam, on sale, and requires no coding. Give it a shot. It won't cost you hundreds of dollars like other software.

They'll have a store available, they have customizable textures and sprites, a click and drag UX, awesome support, multiplayer functionality, demonstration game modes that can be edited, and tons of new features on the way with a rapid update schedule.

Get it before the full release now and you'll get a free upgrade for each version thereafter.

Let's talk about it. Who has thoughts on this?

New tutorial series on 2d game art!

This first video talks about alpha masking related tools, and how to preserve clean silhouettes for your game assets. Although it is focused on Photoshop, and raster software in general, tools like clipping masks are also available in vector software!

Ah thanks for your comment Diego! Well, I do target intermediate users. There are plenty of realtime process videos out there. I prefer to start with very condensed formats, hopefully delivering quite a bit of information in a short amount of time.

I'll ask around if it's too fast overall though, thanks for pointing that out!
