Fancy running a pub in the Lake District?

The Old Crown Inn at Hesket Newmarket is looking for new custodians. It was the first community owned pub in the UK and has set the standard for many to follow. Prince Charles has been known to frequent the bar!

We've found that when people are booking a cottage with us, one of the most popular questions they ask is Where is the nearest pub?.

We quite enjoy answering that one!  In fact so much so that we've put our heads together and come up with a guide of favourite places to eat and drink around Bassenthwaite (near #Keswick ).

Last week Suzanna cycled from Keswick to Mosedale and called into the White Horse at Scales on the way back for soup and crusty bread served by a very cheery barmaid. Lovely!  (and a great location at the foot of Blencathra).

What a stunning day for the Eskdale Show today and now everyone is enjoying the aftershow party at The King George IV!

A great new cafe in Keswick - wonderful coffee in a relaxed setting. See more on our blog.

Just been thinking about my favourite Lake District pubs (a great way to spend a Thursday morning). Here they are, most of them are fairly obvious, but if they're good they're good:

Tweedies Bar - Grasmere
Wasdale Head Inn – Wasdale
Drunken Duck – Between Ambleside and Hawkshead
Old and New Dungeon Ghyll – Langdale
Dog and Gun – Keswick
The George - Keswick
The Old Crown – Hesket New Market
Kirkstile Inn – Loweswater
The Crown Inn – Coniston
Oddfellows Arms - Caldbeck

There's loads more but these are the one's I keep returning to depending on where I've been walking.
