What is at your feet?... I keep a nice selection of blocks , bells a variety of shakers and a nice afuche or two at mine. And i find a nice metal cocktail shaker can produce a nice crisp range of sounds and tones . You have the canister it self as well as the two lids to give you some distinct and different metal / bell sounds your are looking for to give you filler. You still need to get a little creative to fill any kind of high hat sound you may be looking for though. I find that a combination of striking the afuche and cocktail shaker has a similar sound just experiment . but you can add a nice array and layers of sound to your beats with some creative thinking. And keeping it all just at your feet in striking distance with a block striker is a very convenient and easy way to access the objects at your feet. i personally use hand made bamboo sticks I find they give a nice variety of bounce depending on handling of striker. and keeping it all in striking distance at your feet allows you to get the most sounds and rhythms. And with the shakers at your feet as you stomp your beat out the vibrations allowing for some interesting patterns to develop in your beats as well .It is just a nice complement of sounds to any cajon playing style. Give it a try and get creative .Just remember to keep it all portable so it can go with you were ever you and your cajon wind up this summer ..and always make some noise and enjoy the summer..
