I created an interface for the MaKey MaKey. Being a minimalist I created a small thumbtack controller and used it to view front page articles on the New York Times' website, play Scratch piano, navigate Facebook and (my favorite) play Canabalt. One time I ran over 2500m in Canabalt; I love the sound effects. Here is me playing Canabalt with the MaKey MaKey:

Assignment for Session 8

What I have worked on for thirteen years is the New Utrecht Reformed Church website that I have created. The same beliefs that motivated members of the church to give me the church bulletin when I missed Sunday service are what motivates me: to draw members and others to Christ by providing news about our outreach activities (thrift sales, Living Nativity, Men and Women of Valor, concerts, lectures, Liberty Weekend, etc.) that we sponsor alone or with the Friends of Historic New Utrecht and, in the case of Liberty Weekend, the New Utrecht Liberty Pole Association.

I created a website based on my interest in the church; the design of any learning program or place I would create would be based on the interests of individuals and communities and would encourage collaboration on projects. Participants would learn to make projects together.

Discussion for Session 7

My apologies for being a little late on this assignment. This is not about a project I'm working on currently but that I hope to be doing in the future. It involves feeding the needy in the community, which we do at our church on the last Saturday of each month except July and August. Many volunteers have to contribute either dishes, sandwiches, fruit or cookies to these community meals. These contributions, which are discussed at outreach meetings after church service, are as diverse as there are diverse ethnic communities of Bensonhurst. Italian, Spanish, Korean or Chinese could be served at these meals.

The idea for monthly community meals comes from our experience in feeding the needy the evening before Thanksgiving. The pastor had the powerful idea that the need exists throughout the year and that the church should have monthly meals. The pastor recognizes that many in the community run low on food near the end of each month and that it is in the community's interest that the needy be fed at least once a month.

I am not going to be able to visit a Maker Space. However, I have created a virtual Maker Space to others to join and collaborate. I have created a model of my church to start off.

Assignment for Session 6

Did remixing feel like collaborating?

In the sense I recognize that I'm building on another's foundation, I feel that remixing feels like collaborating.

How did the original author react?

I don't know yet. I do know that my project was remixed by someone in Baltimore that provided a pot of gold at the end of the game when the score reached 17 points.

How did remixing help you learn something new?

It allowed me to add a touch of sophistication to etyls's version of SampleProjectsTeam's project. The Pong game has evolved anew.
