In this video, I unbox the Amazon Echo and set it up. It works really well with my Amazon Fire. I hope you like it and share this with anyone who might be interested.

I have an issue that has been bugging me. I have 2 TP-Link lights that are setup on the Kasa app. They "were" working with the echo 2 dot and Alexa. Then we had a power outage due to winter weather. After the power came back on (a few hours later) I re-established links again with the bulbs and the Kasa app. Using the Kasa app I can turn on and off the bulbs and dim them if I wish. But the Alexa app can not find the bulbs. I disabled the link in Alexa for Kasa, and reinstalled the link in Alexa, but the bulbs still can not be discovered within Alexa. Alexa (the echo 2 dot), Kasa app, and the bulbs are all using the same network connection.

I figured out the issue and what the problem was. Inside the Kasa app under the settings for the bulb, "Remote control" had to be set to "on" for each of the installed bulbs. After turning that setting on, the Alexa app (and the Eco 2 dot) was able to re find the installed bulbs when the discover function was run.

Question for the group: I keep seeing posts all around the web from Alexa device owners who want notification capability, but they don't explain what they're after with enough detail. I'm trying to figure out if there's any existing solution, so to those who want notifications: what is the specific thing you want Alexa to notify you about, and how do you want her to do it? How do you envision this function? Thanks in advance for your input.

I would like Alexa to read me reminders when they come in. If I am working on a project and a text or notification comes in, I have set up an old tablet using the Dragon Assistant to read the message so I don't have to stop what I am doing and find the phone to figure out what the message is.  I also use the assistant for timed reminders for things I need to take care of, like get to post office before it closes. If Alexa could do this I wouldn't need to keep two different AI running. I'd also like to tell her to make reminders. I currently use Google Now for that. Too many AI when it would be nice if one did all.

Recent issue with nest thermostat. This was working fine for months but now when I say alexa set upstairs to 22 degrees or whatever it computes the command but the nest doesn't alter it.

Suggestions to improve Echo  -

A suggestion I have given Amazon Alexa team and welcome your views especially our thoughtful.+April Hamilton

"I think it is important that Amazon comes out with clear safety info about the Alexa system and ordering products with Alexa. In my view, Amazon Marketing is failing at managing the reputation of Amazon Echo in the media by providing NO clear public information about the safety, process of monitoring and commitment to future safety for it Alexa users! Amazon is, by their lack of action, allowing the media and rumor to control the narrative about the safety of Alexa devices. This is just poor judgment and marketing. It is like people accused of you food poisoning at your restaurant and you never responded. I am glad to talk to anyone in marketing about this by phone. (919) 847-4757"

But here is the thing. I currently have the S7 edge, I have 1 year left on my contract and unless Samsung pull something amazing out the bag over the next 12 months I am done with them.
I switched to Android 5 years ago and I'm not going back to IOS. I like the pixel but I'd much rather be thinking of a phone with deeper Echo integration than one that is a direct competitor.
I agree with April, surely Amazon will have learned from their past mistakes.

+Jason Blommer I didn't mention it because the terms are a little confusing---it even takes Amazon three FAQ answers to address fully. I didn't want to invite follow-up questions about it since I don't use the service myself and could only refer people back to Amazon.
