Twitter Locks Down Millions of Accounts To Protect Users
Twitter responds to claims of mass account credentials leak by locking millions of accounts to protect its users. The news comes amid earlier reports by LeakedSource that 32 million users account @names and passwords had been leaked by hackers and were being sold on the dark web. Twitter responded to the claims insisting it had no reason to believe it had been hacked, and that the leaked credentials are likely the result of malware on end users machines.

Twitter decided to begin locking accounts after reviewing the leaked credentials posted on Leaked Source's website and comparing it with their own databases. Twitter denies that the credentials for 32 million accounts were affected. The social platform is currently sending password reset notifications to those it deems might be at risk.

security researcher Troy Hunt, stated he was "highly skeptical that there's a trove of 32M accounts with legitimate credentials for Twitter."
