Map of Silas Creek Head Waters--It is historically appropriate for the City of Winston-Salem that Silas Creek's origin begins near RJR Whitaker Park, near where Reynolds BLVD meets University Parkway. The creek then runs through Wake Forest University Campus south of and parallel to Faculty Drive before entering the now-dry bed of former Lake Katherine on RJ Reynolds historical property, Reynolda House. From there, the creek crosses under Reynolda Road and flows parallel to Silas Creek Parkway, the namesake thoroughfare which is one of the busiest streets in Winston-Salem. Flowing through Old Sherwood Forest neighborhood, Silas Creek eventually empties into Muddy Creek southwest of the intersection of McGregor Road and Jonestown Road (at the end of Buddy St, SW).

Silas Creek, Lake Katherine and Reynolda Manor provide the mysterious setting for the death of Z. Smith Reynolds on July 7, 1932. A guest heard a gunshot at 1 a.m.; at 5:30 a.m., Smith Reynolds was pronounced dead. Questions still remain about the death of the young, rich heir to the RJR Tobacco fortune...why would someone who loved life and was "the toast of Broadway" kill himself?
