What is the state of things in Portland?  Any meetups happening?  Someone told me that Portland was a tech area.

I'd had a RUG in my calendar scheduled for "Tue, November 19, 6:30pm – 9:30pm" but there doesn't appear to be one anymore. Just wanted to make sure others saw this as well to avoid inconvenience.

Thanks, Russ -- I had that on my calendar too but hadn't noticed it wasn't in Meetup anymore.

Anyone have 5 minutes to bounce ideas around with me for a system design problem? Has to do with reporting on ActiveRecord data, and having those reports available on the fly.

Just found this. (Was this mentioned at the last meeting and I just forgot about it?)

I think I might go. Is anyone else going?

I'm going. Will probably be riding the concord bus back and forth each day from Portland.

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions for topics for the August meetup?  I'd love to hear people's thoughts on testing frameworks.. cucumber, capybara, Rspec, etc.  Anyone willing to talk on that or have any other ideas?

When SEDA is not enough, there is stream processing or Complex Event Processing. Specialized databases where the data is too fast/big to store, it is processed and acted on in flight. Storm is a big one, an older system is called Esper. This stuff was born in the financials world but is not being used much more widely.

Looking forward to meeting up at some point.  I don't usually get to meet in person so usually am pair programming remotely.

Anyone playing around with Docker yet? We're switching off Heroku this year, so I think it could be a perfect time to pick up a tool.

I haven't experimented with Docker yet, but it's on my short list of things to learn about. I'd be really interested in understanding the workflow for app deployment with Docker vs. Heroku/Cloudfoundry architecture of git push + buildpack detection.

Looking to expand our Engineering team at Bunk1! I would love to find an extremely passionate developer (any language works, we use Ruby) who gets excited about scalability, best practices, and simply helping create successful software. Company is in NYC, but half the team is remote already, so remote is OK!

Our tech stack is currently; Rails, Postgres, Memcached, Heroku, S3. Likely moving off Heroku soon, so if you enjoy or have wanted to learn DevOps, now is a perfect time to join the team!

Do you know someone? $250 to you if I hire your referral.

Either Russ or Elliot mentioned something for tracking things that should happen (like backups) and haven't and the name has already escaped me.  Did anyone else catch it?

Awesome, thanks Elliot!  Also, you mentioned something similar to the queue-based stuff that I'm doing.  Could you share the info on that as well?  Thanks, my memory is swiss cheese. ;-)
