Another big thumbs up to +AMD
for pushing yet another technology as an open standard. In the last years, we have seen AMD working heavily on Linux open-source driver (very stable, reasonable performance), converting Mantle into a Vulkan open standard (next-gen cross-platform graphics API, OpenGL successor), creating AdaptiveSync and pushing it as a DisplayPort specification (tear-free display technology), and announcing hardware GPU virtualization based on SRIOV industry standard. I might have forgotten something.
Now compare with +NVIDIA
: closed proprietary Linux driver and almost zero involvement with the free one (except for ARM), closed proprietary G-Sync (with no support for AdaptiveSync), closed proprietary GRID virtualization solution. When will they learn that we want open standards and open software, instead of patents, closed proprietary software and vendor lock-in?
Hopefully soon. I really hope that AMD will get rewarded for choosing the harder, but "the right" and more customer friendly way, and NVIDIA folks will re-evaluate their disappointing Microsoft-like approach. #AMD #NVIDIA #Vulkan #GRID #AdaptiveSync #GSync
