Hello Everyone. I'm Prep Fx. I'm primarily a preparedness blogger, but I also have a huge interest in sustainability. I'm different than many preppers I've met in that while I'm a conservative person, I see no reason why we should do anything that can hurt our environment when we can use an alternative.

Why on earth so many people want to cling to oil (which you have to drill out of the ground, refine, etc) when you can use sunlight which is quite literally delivered to your doorstep and doesn't require refining. Anywho, I look forward to learning from this community. Thanks!

USDA Grants Final Approval for Monsanto/Scotts' Genetically Engineered Grass

Decades-old outdoor Scotts & Monsanto GMO Grass experiments have proven the bentgrass impossible to control since it escaped from "controlled" plots and invaded irrigation ditches, riverbanks and the Crooked River National Grassland, crowding out native plants and the wildlife that depends on them. Despite more than a decade of efforts and millions of dollars spent, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Scotts and Monsanto have failed to curb the spread of the invasive grass. Yet now the USDA has capitulated to Monsanto's and Scotts' request that federal regulators relinquish any authority over the GE grass, leaving local landowners and state of Oregon to wrestle with the problem.

Here's hoping we can save the bees - losing both them and the flowers would be too tragic.

This report,
Researchers have pinpointed the North American birthplaces of migratory monarch butterflies that overwinter in Mexico, vital information that will help conserve the dwindling species. The researchers analyzed 'chemical fingerprints' in the wings of butterflies collected as far back as the mid-1970s to learn where monarchs migrate within North America each autumn.

Toxic environmental organic compounds are mostly produced as a result of our various industrial activities. However, these environmental organic compounds may arise from unlikely sources as well.

On Thursday I went to see the premier of the new film A Plastic Ocean, a film all about how plastic is affecting the oceans ecosystem. It's a great film and I definitely recommend you watch it. Read my blog to learn more about it.

Understanding the forces that determine the pace of the clean-energy revolution in different parts of the world is the somewhat daunting task undertaken by IRENA, the International Renewable Energy Agency. TriplePundit spoke with IRENA's director general to get the inside scoop.

The Search for microplastics.

There are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic in the world oceans. Of particular concern are microplastics, these small pieces of plastic less than 5 mm in size are bioavailable to a diverse range of marine organisms.

During the 2015 Extended Ellett Line research cruise DY052, Winnie Courtene-Jones of the Scottish Association for Marine Science collected deep-sea invertebrates from a regularly monitored site more than 2000 m deep in the Rockall Trough, North Atlantic. These invertebrates will be studied to assess the presence and interaction of microplastics in the deep sea ecosystem.

Did you know that the amount of commercially produced seaweed almost hit the mark of 25 million metric tons last year?
