Maybank Kim Eng 2018-05-11:

SG Got Its Groove Back ~ Top 10 Stock Ideas.

Preliminary trends from the ongoing quarter Mar-2018 results season suggest low-teens y-o-y aggregate core profit growth, levels seen just once since 2016. Consensus #FSSTI core profit growth expectation for 2018 at 18% has been witnessing upgrades since 3Q17.

The macro is ticking along and our GDP growth forecast for the year is a healthy 3.1%, albeit moderating somewhat y-o-y from high-base effects. We remain positive on the stock market and maintain our preference for cyclical sectors.

Our top BUY recommendations are: City Developments, Genting Singapore, SATS, Singapore Post, ST Engineering, UOB, UOL Group, Venture Corp, Health Management International, Sheng Siong Group.

Singapore Stock Alpha Picks (May 2018) -
UOB Kay Hian 2018-05-03: Solid Performance In April; Taking Profit On Sheng Siong & Adding CSE Global.

Our portfolio performed well in April, with most stocks (with the exception of developers) notching up gains. Most notables were the banks, which delivered 8-12% gains in April ( #OCBC +8% and #DBS +12% ).

We take profit on #ShengSiong given its strong 10% return in April, which resulted in a downgrade in our rating to HOLD. In its place, we added newly-initiated #CSEGlobal, which looks like an excellent proxy to recovering oil prices with a sustainable dividend yield of 6.7%.

DBS Research 2018-05-03: Take A Break, Enjoy The Game.

#STI year-end target raised to 3850.

#WorldCup and stocks do not mix well – STI fell by an average of 8.6% in the two months between end-April and end-June during the past six World Cup tournaments.

Healthy consolidation - Best market re-entry time is at the beginning of July if history repeats. STI near-term resistance at 3650, pullback support at 3500.

Transiting to mid- to late-cycle plays. #SREITs could continue to underperform if FED signals June hike. Companies in net cash can better weather rising rate environment.

CIMB Research 2018-04-05: In A World Of T-square ~ Overview & Alpha Picks.

Based on our economist’s report, exports from Singapore that compete directly with China for the US market amount to US$5.7bn or 25% of Singapore’s total exports to the US. There are some opportunities for displacement demand as a country, in our view.

It is almost impossible to quantify the direct impact on listed companies but the perceived impact is more obvious among tech/manufacturing, commodities, capital goods and banks sectors in the tit-for-tat exchanges between China and US in the medium term.

There is no change to our Alpha picks.

CIMB Research 2018-04-05: In A World Of T-square ~ Tech Manufacturing, Commodities, Chemicals, Capital Goods.

We opine that the tariffs, if applied, may not severely impact the SGX-listed tech-related manufacturers. Generally speaking, consumer IT products assembled in China will become more expensive for US buyers.

Singapore Stocks Monthly Strategy (April 2018) -
DBS Research: Sit Tight - Directional Break Ahead.

#STI’s directional break from tightening consolidation depends on unfolding of trade war rhetoric and earnings outlook. STI in narrowing consolidation range from 3400 to 3500. Expect a breakout this month, latest in May.

Stocks with good #dividend payouts during this period could be supported as investors position ahead of upcoming ex-dividend dates. Large-cap stocks under our coverage with good dividend payouts are #UOB and #STEngineering. For small caps, these are #ChipEngSeng, #FirstResources, #HongLeongFinance and #Sunningdale.

#SingaporeStock Alpha Picks (April 2018) -
UOB Kay Hian 2018-04-03: Selectively Emphasising Defensives. Added Sheng Siong.

The #FSSTI ended March 2018 on a negative note as it retraced 2.6% m-o-m, dragged by fears of a trade war and rising interest rates. Except for #KeppelCorp, #DBS and #WingTai, most of our alpha picks outperformed the FSSTI in March, with positive absolute returns for #CityDevelopments and #CDREIT.

We add #ShengSiong to our alpha picks as we find its defensive characteristics compelling. We also reiterate our BUY call on #Singtel.
