Over the past few weeks I have been thinking more and more about bots. I have gotten used to asking Siri simple searchable questions. I also find I don’t type text messages anymore, instead I am using the voice typing found in the Android keyboard and “OK…

This post grew out of a discussion in a Google group about how we accept answers in scientific notation and what they tell us about student understanding of the same. I share it here because it begs the age-old question, "does technology improve or hamper our understanding of content?"
This week I have been reading with great interest a discussion in a chemistry teachers' Google Group. It started with a post about whether or not teachers find it acceptable when students give answers as 3.6e-4 instead of 3.6...

A challenge I have taken on in my position as Instructional Technology Specialist is seeing how much we can do in GAFE. This has meant looking at our initiatives, from instructional to operational, and seeing if we can transition them to Google Apps, even if it means writing an add-on, app, etc. This has been extremely beneficial for us, both from an instructional and a financial perspective.

This is why I have decided to do a Summer PD session for all of you called "GAFE From The Classroom To The Admin Building." These will be a weekly PD Hangout On Air where we will cover topics ranging from Community engagement to student portfolios. I will discuss not only the technology component but also the educational and/or community benefit behind the topic.

The First topic will be "Writing In The Cloud:Digital Student Portfolios." We'll discuss the benefits of student portfolios, the challenges, how we managed our writing portfolios in Drive, and how I expanded the system to work for more than just writing.

I'll post a link to the Hangout On Air soon with all the info. I look forward to hanging out.

Hi All,

I want to give away some physics books as I don't need them anymore.

The titles are:

Heat & Thermodynamics - Brijlal, Subramanyam

Heat & Thermodynamics - Zemanski

Solved Problems in Modern Physics - Murugeshan

Atomic & Molecular Physics - S L Gupta et al

BSc Physics vol 3 (Nuclear, Solid State & Electronics) - C L Arora

Waves & Oscillations - Brijlal, Subramanyam

Perspectives of Modern Physics - Beiser

Optics 3e - Ghatak

Fundamentals of Physics - B N Ivanov

I won't charge for the books (though I'm scrambling funds for my maths degree course).

Those who want the books, please let me know. I'm in Pune, India. It'll be difficult for me to pay for postage due to financial reasons.

Thanks,

Harsh
