FIXIT CLINIC at Berkeley Public Library

October 6, 2018 - 1:00pm-4:00pm
Tarea Hall Pittman / South Branch / Tool Lending Library

Celebrating repair by conveying basic troubleshooting skills, Fixit Clinics are do-it-together hands-on fix-n-learn community-based exploration and discovery workshops. Volunteer "Fixit Coaches" share their time, tools and expertise, consulting with participants on items' disassembly, troubleshooting, and repair (hopefully!).

Great for maker students and maker teachers alike!

Participants bring broken, non-functioning things -- electronic gadgets, appliances, computers, toys, sewing machines, bicycles, fabric items, etc. Fixit Clinic offers "Fixit Coaches", workspace, specialty tools, and guidance to help participants disassemble and troubleshoot items. Whether it's fixed or not, everyone learns more about how items were manufactured and worked (and broke), and can leave ready to share new-found confidence, insight and skills with friends, neighbors, and the community at large.

• Participants — it’s helpful to know what you’re bringing.
• First-time Fixit Coaches — you're always welcome! Check out the Fixit Clinic Website!
Sign up links for volunteers and participants, and more information, are on the library calendar, link below.

Hello BAMEM people. Angi Chau made a post a few days ago looking for a location for meetups over the next few months, but for some reason I cannot locate that post. Anyways I have one question and then a potential location. Is this for the Bay Area wide Maker Educator's meetup? If so, why is there a request to have the meetup locations only in SF? Wouldn't this technically be available throughout the Bay Area?

The second is an offer to host one of the events at the Crucible in West Oakland, which I am working with to build better connections with the local educational community. If this is of interest, just reach out to me and I can make the connection.

September NBMEM: Starts Roundtable 9/27/18 6-8pm Davidson Middle School, San Rafael
All of us Maker Educators are constantly starting things: a school year, a lesson, a class period, a project. At this, our first NBMEM of the school year, we'll be doing what we do best: share our successes, posing questions, finding solutions. How do you start things? Have you found anything that works well? What isn't working? Need some advice? Looking forward to seeing everyone again soon!

Dinner will be provided. Feel free to invite other maker educators or interested folks!

*North Bay Maker Educators is funded by a grant from the Marin County Office of Education

The KCI Underground MakerSpace at Foothill has space for community members for the Fall 2018 quarter. The cost of individual membership which runs from October 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018 is $160 ($125 membership and $35 materials) We also offer classes that provide college credit and will count towards our MakerSpace Coordinator Certificate and may be a less expensive way for people to use our space. A 2 unit class costs $117 ($55 enrollment fee, $62 for 2 units of credit, and materials are included.) and gives you access to the MakerSpace for the entire Fall quarter.

If you want to see all of the equipment that is available please check out our equipment pages on our site. Also, unlike the TechShop.build, if you are a community member or a Foothill Student member of the space, you get access to all of the equipment trainings as part of your membership or class registration fees.

Please feel free to come by for a visit and check out the space.

Hey maker educators!

We are currently looking for host sites for the 2018-2019 Bay Area Maker Educator Meetups (for the months when we are not hanging out with the fabulous team at Tinkering Studio at Exploratorium, that is).

Can you help us?

Host sites should be:
1) based in San Francisco
2) excited to welcome a group of passionate maker educators to tinker, make, and create in their space

If you know of a site OR your organization wants to be a MEM site, I want to talk to you!! Please email or otherwise reach out to me and let's talk! Thanks!! <3
