Google vs Android

Another instance where google is competing against themselves. They are allowing instant messaging apps to be able to text people in your phone contact who dont have the app installed. This feature debuted on Allo. This will be competing with RCS chat client because it has full access to people in your phone contact. They are opening sourcing their Android RCS chat client along with APIs to compete against OTT messaging apps. Who will win the next era of messaging. Google is on both sides.

"it's also a challenge for many messaging app developers. So, we're also opening up this feature to developers with an early access program, allowing them to extend the reach of their messaging app. To ensure that we're building a great experience for users, we're starting with an early access program with several partners and will expand the program over time. This feature is specifically for messaging apps, so if you're a messaging app developer stay tuned for more information on how to participate in previewing this new feature."

Actually Battery life is a non-issue for me since 2013 - but I might be an exception to the rule. So what is your preferred Solution?

+Yusuf Islam I suppose I should clarify. Under an hour to 94-96% and just over an hour to 100. HTC 10.

Now somebody is going to complain about its supposedly abysmal battery life or something, though not necessarily you. I get between 6 - 6.5 hours SOT. I don't see the problem with that considering hardware limitations across the board. I'm not a "light user" and it usually takes from about 8am to 10-12pm for me to drain my battery. If I am busy and don't use it a whole lot, more like an average user, I see between 20-24 hours of battery life. No use at all aside from the occasional text or call and I know it's over 28 hours with more than 50% left, but I don't go ever go longer than that without using it.

That may be a bit long winded, but every time I bring up the device I have, I hear a bunch of malarkey about it... so I like to get that out of the way.

Am I the only person who dislikes Google Photos? To me it seems almost bloated, it shouldn't take a few taps to get to device albums. Its made image viewing needlessly complicated

+Dylan I'm pretty sure they got rid of it because most people found it confusing to have 2 or more picture gallery apps on a phone. I'm sure if you look around you can find a "gallery" apk to download somewhere on the net. Good luck

1 month use of Nougat here, no crashes whatsoever, not even a crash... From the youngest N5X to the oldest N9...

But, I do agree with the fragmentation thing and blame this issue to all those OEMs, especially all lazy manufacturer of Z-list phones and tabs
A new report out of Apteligent is making the rounds today suggesting apps on Android Nougat crash way more than those on iOS 10, and it seems some people are blowing the data they presented way out of proportion. That's why we're here to tell you that there's no reason to panic.

The carrier Pixel phones has to be shipped with a carrier SMS (RCS app). Allo cant be the default for obvious reasons. Apple ships a SMS app as the default however they give the user the option to turn on /off iMessage in settings

Hence why hangouts was blocked as the default SMS app on the Nexus 6 and Google messenger created. Also why RCS app is being created

http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/11/android-5-0-lollipop-thoroughly-reviewed/8/

"Users rejoiced when Google finally integrated all of its chat programs into Google Hangouts, but Google's most important customer, cell phone carriers, apparently weren't happy about all their SMS messages running through Google's app. The response in Lollipop was to create "Messenger," a new stand-alone SMS client. We got to ask about this a few weeks ago when we visited Google headquarters. Brian Rakowski, VP of Product Management for Android, told us at the time:

With the Messaging app [which was removed in KitKat], we always had a nice carrier-centric messaging app—it was meant for SMS. There's a bunch of things carriers demand for SMS that have to work with carrier requirements for that app. There's still Hangouts, but Hangouts is a different type of app for a different situations. It's still there, and it still allows you to switch between IP and SMS."

Huawei's Mate 9 has leaked out. New big-screened phone could arrive in November in 6 colors, with 6GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and Android Nougat!
November launch likely, with prices for the Nougat-powered slab rumored land between $480 and $700, depending on RAM and storage options.
