Economic Growth and Higher Productivity through Raises and Higher Wages

Economic growth is seen as the primary means of fostering business development, new job creation, and income growth. Because increases in productivity, or worker output per hour, impact economic growth, the likes of Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Stanley Fischer have emphasized the need to increase productivity in order to address weak economic growth and an expanding income gap. From 1949 to 2005, US productivity grew on average 2.5% yearly; whereas, from 2006 to 2015, US productivity grew on average 1.25% yearly. Given that productivity has increased 73% from 1973 to 2015, yet worker compensation has only increased 11%, payroll practices have clearly played a role in discouraging productivity growth.

People are motivated by their economic, social, and emotional interests. A pleasant work environment and a sense of pride in one’s work can do a great deal to motivate an employee. After all, people may work for a paycheck, but they work hard because they care. That said, income determines how well people live. With costs continually growing and new expenses arising, people need to see an increase in their incomes in order to maintain a healthy standard of living. They also need motivational raises on a regular basis to feel a sense of accomplishment and appreciation. Faced with budget constraints, business owners and managers need to set pay and reward raises with productivity in mind.

Pfizer-Allergan Inversion Failure and Corporate Tax Reform: Time for a Territorial Tax Code?

The US Treasury announced two rules on April 4th 2016 in an effort to stem business practices, such as so-called “corporate inversions,” rooted in perverse incentives of harmful economic policies to the delight of many and the chagrin of others.  Designed to eliminate the tax benefits corporations can derive from renouncing their US citizenship and relocating their headquarters to a foreign land where taxes are lower, these rules almost immediately resulted in the cancellation of a $152 billion merger between Pfizer and Allergan.   The apparent targeting of Pfizer over a legal business deal can seem unjust, but this kind of damaging correction is what happens when unhealthy regulations are embraced.

Furthermore, a great deal of the criticism against the US Treasury’s changes is rooted in the Executive Branch acting without significant reforms to the US tax code.  In reality, the fault rests on the shoulders of lawmakers for failing to do their job in a timely manner.  That said, many advocates for corporate tax reform want to see the introduction of a territorial tax system.   Thanks to the efforts of people like Senators Rob Portman and Chuck Schumer, the US may well be nearing the adoption of a territorial tax code.   The threat of corporate inversions aids this ongoing push to transform the US tax system, but that does not necessarily mean a territorial tax system actually serves US interests.

Government accountability starts with the people paying for the politics.
Do wealthy political activists seek improved democratic governance or the pursuit of their self-interest through covert plutocracy?

Friends and activists, I am here to propose a new form of organization and protest on the internet. The group is growing, with members from dozens of countries around the world, but it's about NUMBERS. It's about subverting the game by WINNING it. It has to keep spreading to gain influence as an idea. The more people join in, the stronger the message becomes. I invite you all to join.

For this is one peaceful protest that will never disperse. And it is the ultimate platform/declaration for political and millenial evolution worldwide. This is the actual exporting of democracy and representation through peace.

From Portland, Oregon USA. An Occupy has been in an active protest at SW 4th and Madison for almost 4 years. At Chapman Park, in between City Hall, the Jail, a Federal building, and the Courthouse. As we watch our government ignore the rights of the poor here, we see the same leaders choose to spend money on disrupting other governments. As we get classified as criminals for being homeless, we know that most of the world doesn't have homelessness. As we see an out of control spending spree to militarize the local police, we are marginalized as being irresponsible.

If you believe the government about why they send soldiers to kill and die, you are a complete moron absolving yourself from reality.

We were told that the U.S. mission about occupying Iraq was done to eliminate the capability of Al-Qaeda. As it just so turns out, there were no Al-Qaeda in Iraq prior to U.S. invasion. Since U.S. occupation, Al-Qaeda militants have assembled and taken swaths of territory in that region in the world. All by design, all for the interests of war-profiteering corporations.

Thousands of U.S. soldiers, millions of displaced/dead Iraqis and wanton destruction across Iraq was not all in vain. From the ashes and blood-drenched sands the U.S. Government has constructed a solid foundation to control Iraq forever. With the country in chaos and people slaughtering each other, Iraq has become a fragmented society which will never unite against the corporations plundering its resources.

The future of the Iraqi people is unclear, but one thing is certain: Iraqi blood will continue to drench the sands, and bodies will continue to fall into the bottomless pit that is now Iraq.

To my brothers and sisters in Iraq, I wish you the courage you proudly put on display while defending Fallujah from U.S. Marines in 2004. If you are to survive the events to come, you will draw on the lessons from that battle: Unite against your enemy.
