Stages
Portside Chambers, Ahuriri, Napier, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand

This photo has been a few years in the making; taken in 2013 , this black and white version is what I envisioned when I pushed the shutter, but could never really get it to look right.

Until now.

As you will know (especially if you read my latest blog post:
http://ankhphotography.net/blog/2016/9/28/in-the-western-hills) I work most of my week designing buildings, and this is one that I worked on and also got to watch being built (our office is across the road from this building).

During design and construction we referred to this building as Stage 8, but it is more properly known as Portside Chambers.

Walking the line between blue and orange
Ahuriri Estuary, Napier, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand

This is a spot I have shot from many times before, but these conditions were just perfect for getting a long exposure of the colourful sunset.  This estuary is extremely tidal and this boardwalk is at the highest point of where the tide reaches, so this shot is only possible when the high tide coincides with the sunset.

For those that don't know the area, the sun was setting at about 90° to the direction of this shot, to my left.  But all the colour was to my right.

Today’s question is from Luke who asks: Do I really need Photoshop or Lightroom to edit my photos? Put simply, NO unless you have a specific need for it.

Job satisfaction
Chrysler badge and grill, Taniwha Daffodils, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand

We were down at Taniwha Daffodils in Central Hawke's Bay last weekend, and the local Vintage Car Club happened to be there as well. So I took the opportunity to get a few shots of the cars, as well as the daffodils.

When I look at some of the design work that went into the classic lines on older cars, I can't help but think that somewhere in a design studio was someone whose job it was to design these things. Seeing them built and driving around must have given a fair bit of job satisfaction!
