I watched the movie An Affair to Remember this weekend for the first time (crazy I know). And the movie got me thinking about the messages we receive from the media about when to work on a relationship and when to leave it for something or someone novel and different. In the movie, both characters were in what appeared to be loving relationships and yet on an oversea voyage where the characters are far from "real life" they meet someone new and "fall in love". Can you think of any films where the opposite is true, where the characters make a committed choice to nurture the relationship they have instead of abandoning it for something shiny and new?
