I installed kubuntu over Ubuntu (for a KDE desktop) and this is what happened to my boot manager. When I select boot device options, this is what happens. Any fix for my boot manager? I can't even select a USB drive to boot from with the boot manager like this.

+Brandon Higginbotham install and run boot repair from liveUSB as mentioned by Hilton, you don't have to  disable UEFI, Select options in advanced section in boot repair menu and re-install grub..

Hello everyone. I am new here and a once and future Linux user. I have an Acer laptop (full name pasted below) on which I would like to partition the disk so I can run Windows (still a necessary evil) on one side and Linux on the other. After I burn the installation disk and attempt to boot from it, my screen goes completely black. From Googling this problem, I gather it is common among Acer M series laptops because Acer does something proprietary w/their onboard chip set that means it doesn't behave the way most graphic cards do. This makes Ubuntu installation difficult. Likewise World of Warcraft advises me that I need graphics driver upgrades, but the Windows Web site also complains about the odd proprietary graphics configuration and says it cannot help me upgrade drivers. Meanwhile the Acer site says I dont need upgrades. Has anyone seen this problem before? Is there a workaround? Or do I have the last machine in the known universe that can't run Linux? Thanks for reading and for any replies.

First of all you can try to post when you have problem also on your profile, I just do not want to join every Ubuntu community to answer various problems users ask for.
Which distro you have tried to install +Mason West?
Basically you have Intel HD 4000 graphics which know to sometime cause problems on various distros, some asus laptops had similar problem.
Try to when you boot your system add "nodrm" if that doesnt help try "nomodeset" of course without quotes.

To get to it when you boot cd/dvd, if you are installing Ubuntu, press F6 and append those arguments to it.
You can also try easier with acpi=off which will probably also resolve the issue.

Nirmik Kale originally shared:

Dear Sir,
Ive been an Ubuntu User , follower and worshiper for the past 4years...
We have seen a lot of controversial decisions been taken bcoz f whatever reasons that needed them to be taken...
And just like others in the Ubuntu family, I have always decided to accept all of them with grace knowing that its for the betterment of the community and the Ubuntu experience...
But this time, i am deeply saddened by the news of Ubuntu One shutting down...
I do understand the financial sustainablity issues, but still somewhere, it really feels bad...
This was one great service that has saved me god knows how many times!
It was one of the 1st ever real cloud sync service that we saw so deeply integrated with the Operating System...
And now when it goes away,
we will have to go back to the cloud "storage" services and forget the only and best "sync" service ever!

Being you, I am sure you could find other ways to make Ubuntu One profitable somehow!

So this letter, is a sincere request to you to reconsider the shut down of Ubuntu One!

I dont know if this letter will change your or nyone at canonical s mind...

but i still hope for a miracle that shall do so!!

ThankYou for giving us the Best OS ever and the beautiful experience we have using the same...

Looking forward to posts on the net saying,
"Ubuntu One isnt dying!! " :D

ThankYou :)

- Nirmik Kale on behalf of every Ubuntu User! :)

MEGA, its the best choice for protecting your data. No linux client yet, but they are working on it. Clients for mobile, windows, and browser. Data is encrypted and decrypted at the source. Plus 50GB free.

OS X에서 부트캠프 쓰듯이 리눅스에서도 할 수 있군요. 조심조심 세팅해야 할 것같아요.

Oops, sorry for my Korean, but, follow the link, then you can use Windows 7 as you do with Boot Camp under OS X.

EXTREME CAUTION NEEDED.

Here is a comparison between the #FlatWoken  icon set on different platforms. Screenshot #1 is on Linux, whereas screenshots #2 and #3 are on Android! Isnt' it cool to seamlessly share a common iconset?

The wallpaper is the official FlatWoken wallpaper , available on github!

LINUX version available at https://github.com/alecive/FlatWoken
ANDROID versions available at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alecive.flatwokenfree (free - only 52 icons) and  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alecive.flatwoken (0,99€, 150 icons right now growing over the time)
