Grammarly, a writing tool, is now "free" and apparently popular. The ad, at any rate, has millions of hits. The ad has at least part of it right: you DO need to be as error free as possible if you want an "A." The word "free" needs to be in quotes because although you can get a free account and upload documents to test them, SOME, but not all, of the errors and suggestions for improvements will be shown to you for free.

We suggest you try it on a couple of your posts or papers and see if you like the results. Please feel free to comment or respond with your results.

And BTW, the part of the ad where the instructor says "Looks like I won't be needed this anymore" is just nonsense! #grammarly #grades #proofing

Calvin Wolf originally shared:

Politically speaking, the United States has gone the way of our public education: Too much focus on customer service and "making mission" rather than doing what is right and necessary. We avoid necessary reforms (universal health care, tuition-free public higher education for qualified students) to keep taxpayers happy, we avoid angering powerful stakeholders by allowing them to retain control (health insurance corporations, money-hungry universities), and we over-fund programs that have strong marketing appeal (the military).

Powerful stakeholders demand customer service, and politicians provide it in order to further their mission of winning more votes.
