The Light in the Darkness

Today is the winter solstice, the darkest day of the year, and we must bring light to a dark area of the mind for many.  Our mind can become corrupted, so it is our duty to ourselves to keep it healthy.  No servant or psychotropic medicine can fix corruption in the mind's reasoning processes.  If your emotions become corrupted, then correcting yourself by going against your emotions to doing the right thing is the only way to fix emotional problems.  In the same way our emotions become conditioned from repeated actions, we need to do repeated actions to correct the problems in those emotions to what is right, what is optimal, for living with others.  In order to make our emotions healthy for living in a civilized society with other life, we need correct our emotions to what is valuable for the life, both our own life and other peoples' lives.  For example, anger at an accident of somebody bumping into you is not valuable for the life, but anger at seeing a man beat and torture an animal is a healthy anger since the man's action is not healthy for a civilized society to thrive.

If your logic becomes corrupted, then correcting your reasons of why you do what you do, by being skeptical about your reasons and justifications, is needed to fix the corruption in your mind.  As you build beliefs and knowledge over time, the logic in your judgments validate your beliefs, knowledge, and reasoning.  In order to fix the problems in your reasoning, you need to be able to identify logical fallacies and cognitive biases better.  Practice and exercise over time of identifying the fallacies and biases will help you to correct yourself and clean out corruption from the mind.  Remember, your logic, like your emotions, has to value life since, logically, you live with other life and the loss of quality to peoples' minds in society can crash a civilization.

Look at the "About this community" section of Mind Club, and notice the links to "Emotions", "Logic - Fallacies", and "Logic - Cognitive Biases".  To clean the corruption out of your mind, go through those lists, study each item, and analyze them so that you can identify them in yourself and others.  This is something you work on over time, and it will clean the corruption out of your heart and mind when you identify your fallacies, biases, and wrong emotions that have a negative influence on your life and other peoples' lives.

My time to die is coming soon.  I have an illness that doctors do not know of, and it is destroying my access to my brain over time.  Now I am too impaired to drive, and the degeneration continues on.  This lesson on cleaning out the corruption in the mind is one of the most important teachings I can give to you all before I die.  If something happened to the human species and we needed to determine who could be saved, we would need to save those whose minds have little to no corruption, whose minds can live well with others.  The day may come where I leave you all soon.  Until then I will continue to post and give back to others.

Mind Practice: Resolving Thoughts

I have been working on some content for the site, but it is taking some time.  I want to get into some more meta-cognitive mind practices, but before we do that, we need to get the mind unburdened.  Here is a practice to help unburden the mind.

Find a place to relax, close your eyes, and be aware of what thoughts bubble up.  Often times, we have difficulty doing mind practices because various worries will bubble up in the middle of some other mind practice or exercise.  Instead of trying to suppress these thoughts by quieting the mind, we are going to resolve them.

Here is an example of how this practice would work.  You close your eyes and spend some time working towards a relaxed state of mind.  After some span of time, a worry bubbles up to your consciousness.  It is a worry about some task such as getting your laundry done, some meeting you need to prepare for, or some other duty.  You set a date/time of when you will schedule the task, but you do 'not' schedule the date/time of the task since that may require many other tasks such as checking your agenda.  By just setting a time to schedule the task, such as after your practice, later, or in the morning, you will resolve the thought or worry in your head.  If the thought circles back around, you won't have to worry about it since you have resolved what you are going to do with it.  You can imagine filing that concern away in a filing cabinet if that helps you to feel emotionally resolved.  After the many worries swirling around your head have been resolved, your mind becomes less burdened, and this allows your mind to move on to greater mind practices.

Mammals and birds developed intelligence independently which is why the crow's brain reveals what intelligence looks like in a brain nothing like our own.

Understanding Meta-cognition from Human Experience

What do you think about your thoughts?  Have you closed your eyes and focused on what's going on in your mind?  Are you aware/conscious of your soleus?  My what?  My soleus?  Without understanding what a soleus is, how can you be aware/conscious of it?  Without understanding what the different parts of the mind are, how can you be aware/conscious of those areas?  Meta-cognition is awareness of those areas of the mind, self-awareness.  By the way, your soleus is a muscle in your calf, and with some simple questions which you can experience as a human, you can find this muscle on your body.  If humans never saw an anatomy chart, what would human consciousness of their body be like today?  When you figure out the answer to that question, you may understand why human consciousness of the mind is so lacking.  Fortunately, you can enjoy the Mind Building Chart here in Mind Club.

Understanding Willpower From Human Experience

Think about human experiences where people lose their willpower.  They broke their diet, gave into peer pressure, or went with their ex lover.  The logical, the best or optimal, thing to do would be stay on the diet because it's good for their health, act on personal safety over peer pressure, or not negatively influence their social network by going with their ex lover.  Why did the person lose their willpower and break their diet?  The reason usually is because the food taste good.  The joy associated with the experience of the food was the reason rather than what was logically best for the person's health.  Why did the person give into peer pressure?  Often it is the desire of acceptance from the group that overrides what's best for the person's safety, their health, and the desire for acceptance is an emotional reason.

Notice that emotional reasoning overrides logical reasoning where people lose their willpower.   Look at the Mind Building Chart and notice the 4 types of reasoning that are a part of our will.  You can desire to do what is best for your life which means that your emotions are in sync, congruent, with logical reasoning for what is best for your life, or your emotions can overpower what's logically best for your life, where you lose your willpower.  To bring our will to power, we need to really practice and exercise doing what is logically best for our life and the others we live with which will condition our will over time, give it power.

Understanding The Will From Human Experience

While walking through a crowd, you smell one of your favorite foods. (Think right now about one of your favorite foods).  The nostalgia, the joy, from that memory of your favorite food bubbles up to you consciousness and becomes the emotional reason (reasoning) to go get your favorite food. Ask yourself what is this planned action to go get your favorite food?  Is it your intention? Is it a goal?  Yes, it is.  Intentions, goals, are something that all of us do who have a human mind.  With this intention to go get your favorite food, you might be able to order it, look around in the area where the person may have bought it, or go to several different places to get it.  When the human mind has this situation with multiple alternatives, we call them options, and we evaluation or judge which one to select.  When we select one of the options, we have made a decision to act. Once we start acting on this decision, we have executed our will.

Understanding Intention Filtering From Human Experience

Have you ever said something without thinking before you spoke? (put your foot in your mouth - so to speak).  This happens so often to so many people, so it is a human experience that many of us are familiar with.  What happens in the human mind when we have these experiences? If you have had one of these experiences, think about why you said what you said.  Was it because you felt like saying it?  Usually, this is the experience which means it was because of emotional reasons.  Look at the 'Intentions' area of mind building chart at the "About this community" section on the top of the Mind Club page.  You can think of the outcome of the intention that bubbled up from your emotion and filter the intention by rejecting it because it will have negative consequence, a bad intention outcome.  People often have had the experience where they thought to themselves that it would 'not' be good to say something.  When you have had those thoughts,  you thought of the outcome of the intention to speak and filtered the intention by rejecting to say what you were about to say.
