Northern Illinois and Western Chicagoland Gamers

Our all-ages, public gaming club always has a spot open at the table for you!

Ella Johnson Public Library
109 South State St.
Hampshire, IL 60140

2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month.
5:30 PM – 8:00 PM

The library’s reading room is specifically reserved for us at that time, and the staff is very supportive – our games have even been counted as credit for participation in their Summer Reading program.

If you’re local, come be part of a positive, inclusive environment focused on fun and growing our community of gamers.

We have a core of 4-6 regular players who turn out, with an extended pool who drop-in/drop-out between sessions. None of our players currently track their progress for Adventurers League play, so I run things a bit looser than I might otherwise based on the nature of the group.

Are we strictly AL legal? No, but we are playing D&D. And I would be glad to work with and try to accommodate any players who want to maintain logs for more organized play in the future.

The party has been adventuring through portions of the Lost Mine of Phandelver since late April. They found a magic mirror in the ruins of Cragmaw Castle that they’ve been poking at, which will unknowingly whisk them away into the mists of Barovia for a romp through Curse of Strahd…

… or will they decide to continue aiding Gundren Rockseeker in his efforts to clear Wave Echo Cave?

… or perhaps follow up on the lead they’ve uncovered about Cult of the Dragon activities to the south near Greenest?

… or will they dive off the rails I’ve laid before them to seek their fortune in the City of Splendors, facing intrigue between the noble houses of Waterdeep, braving the Blue Alley, and staging foolhardy expeditions to plumb the depths of Undermountain in an urban sandbox?

Who can say where our heroes might go from here?!

We have only one and half weeks to two weeks left before event submission is closed for Tri-Con Fall September 2-5 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. I am still in need of DMs for the Epic (need at least 1 dm for tier 1, 2 and 3). Please let me know if you are interested in running. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What happens if a PC reach level 11 while playing misty fortunes and absent hearts?

"The Dark Lord" is a 5-10 adventure, so does it stay stuck on Ravenloft forever unplayable?

My recommendation is to do as I do.
I have a book full of log sheets that document every game I have run as DM. This is a master log of all of my DM rewards. It also notes any time I transfer DM rewards to a character. I then also record on the character that the DM rewards are transferred to. I starred doing this when I ran my first AL adventure at the AL launch event at my FLGS. I didn't expect to be able to play a character, so I just started logging all my DM work to use if I ever had the opportunity. I have since spent some rewards to bump characters into the next tier or close enough to be able to use the catching up option. That said, I have run so many sessions that I still have enough rewards that I could start a character at level 20 with full plate, a wagon, and horses with plate barding.

Got a question regarding Hunter's Mark. The spell says I get an extra d6 "whenever" I "hit" with a weapon attack. So from a ruling standpoint, if I'm a 5th lvl Ranger fighting 2-Handed and get a "hit" with all my attacks on my "mark", I should be allowed 3d6 extra damage, correct?

If I was going to stay a single class Ranger, for the campaign this particular PC is in, I might have taken Colossus Slayer. However, I think with the 5 levels of Rogue I intend to take, Horde Breaker is the better choice. With Assassinate giving me advantage over creatures I go before, coupled with Sneak Attack and Hunter's Mark; I should be rolling a lot of d6. Also, the group I'm in is fairly large; 7 third lvl PCs. We have a high ECL. We are probably going to see more groups then large creatures as the comparative ECLs stack way against us if it's a small pack of really tough creatures as opposed to a slightly larger version of our group dynamic or a large pack of similar lvl creatures. The former is gonna happen, but not as often as the later. At least in my experience as a player and DM. I am loving all the input though. Thx a lot, everyone. :-)

Hello Adventure League,
I have some wonderful new about Myth and Legends Con (Denver, Co Aug 12-14).
I have put the schedule of what we are running in what time slot attached. I have request an Event on Warhorn for signups. I will post that Link the beginning of next week. I will only put 4 slots for each game on Warhorn to allow those without access the chance to signup at the CON. On Tier 1 Games will only have 3 slots open, We really want new players to get the Tier 1 Game slots instead of turning them away cause we do not have a game for them.
We are still looking for more DMs. With the Schedule now posted I hope that more will signup to be a DM. DragonRage Games will be sponsoring Gift Cards to a local Eatery for those that DM during the weekend, as well as those that run 12 or more hours will get a free pass to Myth and Legends Con. I will be emailing those that signed up requesting which games you prefer to DM, this will be on a first come first serve basis for so please include your top 5 pics.
https://docs.google.com/…/1FAIpQLSfZ0Nh6iv7XIWg0Y…/viewform…
We also have our Discount Code to attend Myth and Legends Con. The code you use at check out is AL2016
Thank you

So, I have a major problem with the Misty Fortunes storyline. (Spoiler Warning)

What the hell happened to Laszlo after "The Marionette"?

It was designed to be a recurring villain at the start of the campaign and was still unfought after the climatical betrayal of his previous mistress and his major villainous act of starting the fire and commanding a small army of undead in the village.

It's since "The Executioner" that my players are itching for some sort of fight against him, but he is nowere to be found. I would have expected to find him at the service of Esmae in the last adventure but nope, there isn't even a nameless Wight.
I mean, it doesn't even have to stay dead after the fight since the Dark Powers like him so much, so there is no real reason to make him impossible to fight after his "major starting villain" role.

For a campaign with a supposed tight narrative (for AL standards at least) it seems a fumble. My players still talk about the burning of Orașnou and are expecting him to be present in a climatic battle.

As the designer that created Laszlo and the Vaduva clan...

... this is not the NPC you're looking for! ;)

There are plans for some old NPCs, Laszlo included! We're rolling out our adventure plans for season 5 - Storm King's Thunder - today, and there will be some surprises not only in the adventure schedule, but certainly in the adventure content. I promise.

About this community

See below for D&D AL Links. At the core of the new D&D Organized Play experience is the D&D Adventurers League. Essentially, we’ve given the system a name, because we wanted to emphasize the connected nature of our public play programs. For the first time, we’ll have our entire public play taking place in the same ongoing D&D campaign. As a player, you’ll create a character for the D&D Adventurers League. You’ll be using the same rules to play at a convention, a store, or any sort of public event. There will be a D&D Adventurers League Player’s Guide available to let you know how it all comes together. Through the different programs, the D&D Adventurers League will be inviting to casual D&D players, experienced D&D players, and players looking for ways in which their characters can impact the campaign world. We want players to find the play that best fits them, and enjoy playing for years to come. As a Dungeon Master, the D&D Adventurers League is a great way to run fun adventures that involve a minimum of prep work. We’ll find ways to reward you for your time and effort through the various programs, and there will be additional support and opportunities to showcase your skills. As an organizer (either in-store or at conventions), you’ll find that the D&D Adventurers League is a great way to keep your players engaged. There will be fresh content available on a regular basis (mostly monthly), ensuring that there’s always something new around the corner. Here's a big ol' list of links that should help you out. Find and join your regional page for more localized D&D Adventurers League play and information. Regional Links: http://dndadventurersleague.org/regional-pages/
