Wizards of the Coast has announced the Dungeon Masters Guild: There’s a new way to buy and share D&D adventures. With the Dungeon Master’s Guild, you’ll be able to self-publish material set in the Forgotten Realms using monsters, spells, characters, and locations.

Wizards' announcement today of Dungeon Masters Guild is exciting and will offer D&D players around the world more opportunities to play the game we all love. It also likely left you with a lot of questions about how this will impact your online, home, store, and convention based D&D Adventurers League games. In the coming days there will be further clarifications from Wizards about how Dungeon Masters Guild works with the D&D Adventurers League and what you can expect with adventures for season 4.

THere is already a bucket load of content there already. Be very careful though if you are thinking of putting stuff up for sale. If you are using pictures you DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHTS TO then do not post your content.

Soon I'll be on my way to Winter Fantasy (Feb 3-7) at the Grand Wayne Convention Center in Ft Wayne, Indiana.

Can't wait to talk shop and roll dice with my AL brethren and meet new compatriots.

Hope to see many of you there.

How many of the mini 1 hour scenes did you play in Matthew? Did they feel like an hours worth or more? or less? Memorable npcs? monsters?

Love this article.

I vowed to keep my Dungeons & Dragons prep to 30 minutes or less. Here's how I succeeded, and how other Dungeon Masters can, too, using a free online tool.

Lucky players at Chad's D&D Adventurers League tables have been treated to incredible terrain dioramas. Here's the story behind these amazing displays.

I'm working with my local library to organize a public gaming club, and I'm considering running AL adventures for their episodic format and general convenience. While we anticipate a natural rotation of casual players who couldn't care less to start, my son and I are interested in maintaining AL characters to play at cons. Other players may be as well.

Between the DM's Guild now and the expanding flexibility of AL organized play, are we freed from any need for retailer association or sponsorship? How do I run and track "legal" AL games or handle things like DCI numbers for new players if we're not affiliated with a store? Does that even matter anymore, will their characters be accepted at other organized play events, and how will that all work going forward with home play becoming legal and things like my library club - independently hosted public play not involved with a retailer?

The FLGS doesn't do more than track event attendance using DCI numbers. That is all. I worked at an FLGS, and am familiar with the WPN event reporter. It was only used to schedule events so you could get the participation package with the folios and certificates. Then to report attendance. There is no who got what. Character rewards are all based on the honor system. Rule being that if it is on the log sheet, it is good. If you doubt a log, the best you can do is lookup the module and see if the cited rewards were possible.
The downfalls of forging logsheets are you might level above the tier of play for your group, and/or you won't get any magic item rewards since they go to who has least. Also you get caught forging logsheets, and no-one will want to play with you.

I'd like to start DMing at our local FLGS for D&D Adventurers League. I like the looks of Curse of Strahd but I'm not sure what to do until it comes out. Wait and start DMing in a couple of months? Run something small in the interim? I don't want to invite new people to make 1st level characters and then make them do it again in a couple of months.

Any suggestions? :)

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I've also had some feedback from the prospective players -- they're very eager to get started.

Season 1 (DDEX1-1 Defiance in Phlan) looks like it might be a good place to start with them especially with the shorter, episodic structure while they learn the game and we see who's going to come each week. They're all young and new to D&D so leaving more time for the basic and player-wrangling seems like a good idea. Phlan seems easier for accommodate variable attendance than Lost Mine does, although Lost Mine also looks like it'd be a good choice.

About this community

See below for D&D AL Links. At the core of the new D&D Organized Play experience is the D&D Adventurers League. Essentially, we’ve given the system a name, because we wanted to emphasize the connected nature of our public play programs. For the first time, we’ll have our entire public play taking place in the same ongoing D&D campaign. As a player, you’ll create a character for the D&D Adventurers League. You’ll be using the same rules to play at a convention, a store, or any sort of public event. There will be a D&D Adventurers League Player’s Guide available to let you know how it all comes together. Through the different programs, the D&D Adventurers League will be inviting to casual D&D players, experienced D&D players, and players looking for ways in which their characters can impact the campaign world. We want players to find the play that best fits them, and enjoy playing for years to come. As a Dungeon Master, the D&D Adventurers League is a great way to run fun adventures that involve a minimum of prep work. We’ll find ways to reward you for your time and effort through the various programs, and there will be additional support and opportunities to showcase your skills. As an organizer (either in-store or at conventions), you’ll find that the D&D Adventurers League is a great way to keep your players engaged. There will be fresh content available on a regular basis (mostly monthly), ensuring that there’s always something new around the corner. Here's a big ol' list of links that should help you out. Find and join your regional page for more localized D&D Adventurers League play and information. Regional Links: http://dndadventurersleague.org/regional-pages/

Where can I find the starting lifestyles for the backgrounds listed in the Sword Coast Adventurers' Guide?

Also, why does the urchin begin with a modest starting lifestyle?

I've looked at ALPGv3 (Adventurers League Player’s Guide version 3) and couldn't find is it was possible to use Elemental Evil (EE) races for seasons compatible for Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide (SCAG). AFAIK a season is either compatible with its own content, when there's a lot for it like EE, or with SCAG. It seems to me that means EE races can't be used for SCAG (compatible) seasons; but I'm hoping I'm wrong.

I may want to use an EE race along with some SCAG feature.

Thank you kindly for your help

The answer you can give is, "In previous organized play programs it was noticed that unbalancing combinations were often found and exploited by players who combined traits/powers/abilities, etc from multiple books. To prevent that in the D&D Adventurers League we've implemented the Story Origins system." You might not notice any currently, but it doesn't mean they're not there or that they won't be in the future.

Finally listening to the Hickman/Perkins podcast, I was hoping they might reveal that you could again start off in the Tavern like the original adventure did, but its great they are giving multiple ways to get started out.

It one of the great things about AL, Im always given a lot of hooks to get players in on things .

7 pm Wednesday Out of the Abyss
@ Summit Comics and Games, Lansing, MI:

We have seen a vision of the Faceless Lord and were shocked by the seeing the Lady of Rot and the Silibant Beast in the flesh.

I think we need to leave the Underdark very soon. I say this despite my character calling the Land Below home.

Each of our two tables have space to grow. Come join.

Question and SPOILERS for Occupation of Szith Morcane

I ran this last Saturday for the first time and after starting at 11:30 am on a Saturday it nearly ran to 5pm. I found the sheer amount of battles in the storyline probably 1 too much.

Has anyone else had problems with the length of this scenario?

I have posted a new product to the DMsguild that you might want to check out to enhance your AL/D&D games.

I have compiled, re-edited, and updated all of the previously published "Conversations With" articles that looked at the Faction contacts in the Moonsea region and added NEW information!

Inside you get:
*In Character interviews with Olisara Lightsong (Harpers), Zern Xerkstil (Order of the Gauntlet), Seranolla the Whisperer (Emerald Enclave), Dornal Whitebeard (Lords' Alliance), and Chaab (Zhentarim).
*Never before seen stats for each of these important NPCs that are part of the Adventurers League plot.
*A description and stats for Delwyn Ilar, the reporter from the Podal Prophet broadsheet in Phlan.
*Suggestions on how you might incorporate these NPCs into your games, whether you are running AL or not!

Check it out:http://www.dmsguild.com/product/171835/Conversations-With-Faction-Contacts-in-the-Moonsea-vol-1
