Our very own paperdigits summarizes what's been going on in the community lately, including neat things like:

* Grain synthesis techniques
* RGB color mixing from Elle Stone
* Ingo talks Pixel Shift (Pentax) support in RT
* darktable + MIDI control from houz!
* +Morgan Hardwood writes up a great guide on dealing with clipped highlights in +RawTherapee

In late 2016, +Michael Natterer added support for color tags to GIMP (applicable to layers, channels, and paths). That feature is useful for quickly distinguishing sets of layers in a huge layered project. Now thanks to Juan Palacios, GIMP can read and write color tags from/to PSD files.

Please note that for UX compatibility's sake we use a superset of color tags, which means that GIMP also has a brown color tag, just like Krita. Whenever you use a brown color tag and export to PSD, that particular tag will be skipped.

Just a heads up for anyone using a development build of GIMP from git master - remember that it's a development branch and things are subject to change! As in, saving layered XCF files from this branch is unsafe and may not work in other versions of GIMP.
For the past several months we've been focusing on delivering usable linear workflow to GIMP users. In particular, since January, we've been rewriting blending and compositing of layers. This is still a work in progress, and we just want to warn you that saving layered XCF files with builds of GIMP from git master branch is currently unsafe. Once the dust settles, we'll post with more details on all the changes.

+Patrick David and anybody who can help.

I am trying to use the GIMC filter Inpainting for content aware fill.
I cant seem to get it to work. I have tried the multi-scale version of the inpaint filter. That doesnt work either.

I googled and found others had the issue too. for some it was color of the patch. I have done that but it just doesnt seem to work.

Any help? Normal heal selection work but the result is not as good as I had prefer.

I am running 2.8.18 on Xubuntu 10.16 64bit.
