COMMON KINGFISHER: LITTLE MASTER OF AVIAN WORLD …..
If you notice the manifestation of this little master anywhere in the world of fauna, he has that profound power & charisma to steal the show. If one closely watches him, this seemingly diminutive character just around 16cms (6 inches) long weighing about 34 to 45Gms is a treat to behold. It feeds on fish which he usually preys by diving underwater and catching them fast and swiftly returning back to his perch to enjoy the hunted treat. This virtue of special visual adaptions to enable to see prey deep underwater is inherited gift of nature by birth. This COMMON KINGFISHER is not so commonly seen as the name suggest , and is also called Small blue Kingfisher due to its diminutive size and turquoise blue to green upper parts and short tail. It is usually seen perched on a branch near the water bodies focused totally on his targets sitting patiently for hours frequently giving quiver jerks to his short neck.
This image was taken inside the Leela Goa property- India, a heaven on Earth.
