Let's imagine: The town of Limoges had been under English control but in August 1370 it surrendered to the French, opening its gates to the Duke of Berry. The response from England was quick. In September town was surrounded by Edward the Black Prince and two his brothers: John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, and Edmund of Langley, Earl of Cambridge. By the time of the siege, the Duke of Berry had left Limoges with most of his army, leaving a garrison to protect the town. The Black Prince swears to regain Limoges and punish the French.
