This tweet is just 1 of many Leo made today trying to explain why chat and live stream is being shut down. It confirms unfortunately the harassment and threats Leo has been dealing with for 18 months now.

Check out @leolaporte's Tweet: https://twitter.com/leolaporte/status/603559957212962817?s=09

Wow.  I had no idea how serious the problem was until I started searching for some context around Twit TV and shutting down the chat.  Frontpage Google results link to pages obviously written by these people to jump on him for every little thing.

I'm sure you guys will discover a way to move forward and still keep a vibrant community!

There is a rumor going around that the TWiT Live streaming will stop. +Leo Laporte +Lisa Laporte Is this true?

I don't know your reasons for this, but I can tell you this: I only watch live. If there is no more live streaming, the soul of TWiT is gone. The live and behind the scene stuff is what makes TWiT special. Without it, the network is gutted. The Internet is full of pre produced stuff.

This is the last post in this thread, because speculating is pointless. I want to close it on a positive note: If some mistake happened, and the price of salvaging bigger things is no more live stuff, so be it.

Twitt will be a bit poorer for it, bit it will still be. Who knows, maybe the editing will bring a whole new dimension to it all.

So keeping the live feed after all! Leo said so just now on TWiG. I don't know what that means for the chat though.

Found this on Twitter from last night. From @leolaporte

@AshesBTrp Hunh? I love our community. It’s a shame that one or two trolls has to ruin it for the rest. But I don’t blame the real fans.

+Leo Laporte +Lisa Laporte while the chat room is a small minority of the total viewership they are the biggest fans and provide real time information to all the main shows, the network will lose A LOT without the feedback at the time of the taping. I know the chat has trolls problems but turning it off is not the answer you are losing what makes TWiT.tv different from Canned TV shows IMHO.

+Daryl Hunt That's true. The episodes of The Tech Guy I've seen, there is not a single show where he doesn't get an answer from the chat room.

As publicity stunts go, Virtual Drift is a pretty complicated one. Here’s how it works: start with a driver from Formula D, a professional drift racing league. Build him an absurdly heavy custom...

This article points to a series of issues that must be analyzed. We live in a new reality, where Tech giants have accumulated a gigantic amount of influence that transcends borders and known models.

I think the Commission is right to look at what's happening. We ought to know what new forces are at play in the world, don't you think?

Well there ya go... you took out that bank loan you are still repaying with interest, to (in effect) rent a car. Congratulations.

Hey, that $80,000 Corvette Z06 you bought? Yeah, it's really not yours, it belongs to GM. They charged you that much money to use it, drive it, and have the pleasure of maintaining it...but they still "own" it, per se.

Congratulations! You just bought a new Chevy, GMC, or Cadillac. You really like driving it. And it's purchased, not leased, and all paid off with no liens, so it's all yours... isn't it? Well, no, ...

How long before we see open source replacement software that can be flashed as an option? I know a lot of companies are making software updates for factory systems already. I would like to see a full set of replacement software that removes all of the factory code.
