After doing a little research, it appears that all you need to do is
install Ubuntu using something called Crouton. Yeah, that makes sense...

I'm having an issue in Sketchup and was wondering if anybody could give me a suggestion.

What you see here is a screencap of a touch-screen control in a Star Trek themed home theater control chair based on the Enterprise D's command chair.

I started out making the font in 3D. Unfortunately, that made it difficult to read unless you were looking straight at it, even with the elevation as minimized as possible. Besides, it's supposed to be a touch screen, so raised lettering wouldn't work anyway.

So, I turned off extrude and made the font 2D. It worked great until I saved and quit for the night. When I reloaded it this morning, it looked like this.

Suggestions? Advice? I'll post some of the other stuff I made in the appropriate category.

Dan, Let me take a guess at the problem...  your 2D letters are "on the surface" of the touchscreen?  You may need to move the lettering a fraction of an inch in the Z-axis off the touchscreen surface.  This pic looks to me like SketchUp is rendering the letters and the touchscreen surface in the exact same space, which would look like this.

This is a very cool steel structure. It would be interesting to make this into a dynamic component that you just stretch into place and it calculates and places the correct # of stanchions.

Hi all, I'm in Denver now, it's snowing in Vail as well. I look forward to seeing a couple of you at Basecamp 14.
I'll be giving a presentation today on a comprehensive Plug in called PlusSpec. It is the first public viewing, so if your into design, construction I'm sure you will appreciate the amount of time Plusspec will save you.

Multi-lined Dimension Text

If you need to edit the dimension text in your model, but it overlaps into an area that you don't want it to, right click the dimension and chose "edit text" (or just double click the dimension).  By typing \n you can drop the text following that down a line.  This the same as editing text in AutoCAD where you type "<>\p to wrap the text down to the next line.

Just thought I'd share this tip with you guys.  It took me a little bit to find out how to do this.

It's tough to use if you're not familiar with Sub-D modeling practices (which themselves take time to learn), but it's an extremely good tool set. It's worth the money alone for the Knife Subdivide Tool. +Dale Martens did a great job.
