Cherry Blossoms
With the sign of the cross and the fact that the building is a court house, this felt like a good image to post for Easter.

Really awesome video from a great street photographer. Give it a look I am sure.  some of you will enjoy this.

This is as sincere and raw as it gets. This you man is awesome. I love the sincerity of his approach and photographs. Nothing pretentious here. Well worth the watch.

Another shot from Friday. In this shot The seagulls are flying towards me, so they do not show the size in perspective, but look very cool none the less, and very sharp.

Sun-kissed buildings spread the joy of light!  I love how the windows facing the sun share their bounty with shade facing neighbors - decorating with geometric abandon.

This is another from the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Marin Civic Center. It has four floors with elongated openings down the center which gives photographers a wonderful place to play.

It was pouring rain and the glass ceilings gave me a wonderful diffused light - kind of a giant lightbox :-)

I thought I would share something 'grand' today.  It was one year ago that I posted my first public image on Google+.  Little did I know when I put it up that it would lead to such a meaningful community .  The people I've met are treasures and the talent among them is rich.

So thank you for inspiring me to be better - more productive - and for all the lovely smiles along the way.  Joyous :-)

Enjoy the Grand Canal in Venice.

GOING PLACES
The problem with this shoot in Hilton Head was how intensely hot and humid it was. I mean, like sweat dripping on the camera hot! The only time I could cool down was when riding, but I didn't dare take any shots while doing that. Can you imagine a doc at a hospital asking how you broke your arm, and you say, "Um, while doing photography on my bike".... duh...

About this community

In order to be accepted into this community you must actively be posting to Google + so do not keep all your posts private. The community is a forum for serious discussions of photography as an art form, including themes which are taught in every art school as a part of the basic curriculum. We share ideas about the history of photography, composition, symbolism, the meanings expressed by images, and trends in the world of art that have influenced photography - topics that are not often explored in other groups. Because the community is devoted to artistic aspects of photography, please add some details on how and why you shot or edited the images that you post. Similarly, we encourage members who comment on images to describe what inspired them in that particular picture or what alternative style of composition or design they would have chosen. Playing around a bit with an iconic image and lots of layers.  I like the idea of what I'm doing but not getting the result I want.  I will go and shoot the bridge from different angles and see what happens when I play with layers of different perspectives.

If anyone has thoughts, pro or con, I'd like to hear.  This is a medium I'd like to master ... eventually :-)

I think it's wonderful how light and shadow - simple lines - can make a scene into something wonderful.  Without the shadow I wouldn't have stopped and looked.  I might have missed the delicate branches and their echoes or the details of the window, open to catch the breeze.  I definitely would not have stopped and smiled :-)

I was thinking about lightening the water to match the sky better, to try to leave the land as islands floating, but I ended up going with a more natural look.

The Narrow Space Between Storms

I remember saying to +Linda Villers a couple of years ago that landscapes were pretty far down the list for me as photographic inspiration.  That seems to have changed a great deal over the past year, thanks to friends who motivate me to get out to the coast to shoot, but especially thanks to +Sairam Sundaresan and his Storytelling Landscape Photography program.

At the time, it seemed like he gave us so much information that I thought I'd never make use of it all, but so many elements continue to work their way into my photography.  Sairam, with the support of the +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers, has made a huge gift to this community that continues to grow in so many ways.  Photographers, keep an eye out over the next few days for a new program, and consider becoming a mentor if you might be able to help others here.   #thankyouSairam !

eat the lotus!

>John Suler: this is a view of the "large courtyard" that I described in our exchange on the image r e g r e s s i o n (and the title above is not intended as an insult, it is an allusion to The Odyssey).

Ah, yes. I remember this shot, or perhaps a variation on it. Thanks for showing it as a way to explain the previous image. It certainly is  a very rectangular place!

well, art can be thought of as a form of perceptual engineering; and of course, some folks describe reality as a construct, to which various perceptual modalities contribute, along with apperceptive cognitive processes...(right now I'm listening to Pendulum Music by Steve Reich, which is somehow mixed in here)

"Breedless" from a concept I created whilst listening to "Quest for fire" by Iron Maiden. The location is Hound Tor, Devon. Its beautiful, not too remote. Everytime I had been up there to scout the location, the weather had been inclement but today it was sunny and way too bright.  This is one of the first off the card and it took me almost 5 hours to get it to this stage but Im really quite pleased with the result.   I also made the outfit (my first attempt) it din't fall apart so yay :) Thank you for taking the time look at my work.
