If any other bird. If this was any other bird other then a seagull I bet it would be sellable.
Seagulls are fun to take because how they soar always looking for a bite to eat even if it is your fries that you just purchased from the fry truck on the pier, lol.

About this community

In order to be accepted into this community you must actively be posting to Google + so do not keep all your posts private. The community is a forum for serious discussions of photography as an art form, including themes which are taught in every art school as a part of the basic curriculum. We share ideas about the history of photography, composition, symbolism, the meanings expressed by images, and trends in the world of art that have influenced photography - topics that are not often explored in other groups. Because the community is devoted to artistic aspects of photography, please add some details on how and why you shot or edited the images that you post. Similarly, we encourage members who comment on images to describe what inspired them in that particular picture or what alternative style of composition or design they would have chosen. Rules of composition  -

Took this at Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario. I think it covers a few of the so called rules.of composition. But best of all the duck in the foreground looks like you can almost reach out and touch it.

+Raymond Upenieks  good to hear from you. we all have been busy and the fantastic group all drifted away but I would like to try to carry on and make this group strong again. I miss the engagement and all that we learned from each other. One of the problems was that by the time Amir gave this group up almost all the topics that could be covered were, It was a struggle to keep coming up new  and exciting topics to discuss. But we managed for over a year, We still have plenty of people daily wanting to join, But what I miss most is the engagement. Any ideas?

Do you mentally complete the object, or just see the arc?  I find myself seeing the whole bowl through the shadows, but I know what it is.

Bowl Full of Dark

Even though I'm immersed in my own Blurs and Unsharp Photography program right now, it's hard to express how excited I am about taking part in +Eric Raeber's Lighting with Intent mentorship!  This is SOOC, the result of an assignment on bending light and managing all of its myriad reflections and refractions.  If anyone wants to suffer out there, try setting up a dark wine bottle and a clear wine glass, and shooting them so as to manage all the reflections in both.

Eric is a wonderful mentor, enabling us to readily understand each challenge and imagine a result -- though some of those results may take plenty of hard work to execute.  And the rest of the group is amazingly inspiring and helpful as well; one of the best ways to learn more about each task is to see what everyone else is doing, for better or worse.  This week, in studying the subtleties of reflections on these and other objects, I learned to see something I'd never really seen before.  That means a lot to me.

If anyone is curious, this bowl was created long ago by an old friend, Robert Abrams, who has just launched the Abrams Claghorn Gallery on Solano in Albany, CA -- check it out if you're in the area: http://abramsclaghorn.com/ .

Also for #designthursday  with +Venkatram Harish Belvadi (+Design Thursday); #ondisplaythursday  with +Laura Loralieh Nixon (+On Display Thursday); and, of course, #thankfulthursday  with +Bonnie Pickartz (+#ThankfulThursday).

That is very interesting, +Alex Lapidus  as I am on the journey, but not all in yet, lol. I bout myself an extra large flashbender and have done some off camera flash work, but I still prefer working with natural light. I am also a little apprehensive as I have no desire to change my photographic style too much so I am trying to incorporate my off camera flash to enhance the natural look and have more control of how my subject is lit. The two tulip pictures below are naturally lit. Camera position is everything on a picture like that. Which I find more fun then exposing the foreground with flash and intentionally underexposing the background with a short shutter speed, which is what i do to achieve the look indoors.
