I'm really considering building this but I'm more familiar with the grbl based cncs than the marlin firmware you guys are running. Has anyone started with grbl? if so was it a challenge to adapt to the MPCNC? Would you recommend using grbl over the ramps board? What is the workflow when using the marlin firmware?

Additionally are there any build other there that are both cnc & 3d printers? I've been looking for the past 6 hours or so on here and the official forums and haven't found anything. I hope I missed something and someone here can point it out.

Thanks in advance fro any help suggestions or tips that are offered.

Plenty of people use grbl, there are not very different to use.

Almost done. All the parts move. Motors on.

This is a Model F.

the extra picture is of the Z axis nut trap that I designed that has a slide lid to hold in the nuts (no glue required).

The problem is that while I ordered the pulleys ages ago (and got them), I forgot to check the size. and I got 8mm bore pulleys, not the 5mm. I can use the 8mm for other projects I have planned, so had to re-order some 5mm pulleys. :) so until they arrive it is on hold.

In one of the pictures you can see I draw a square in pencil. That is the bounding box of the work area (pencil held in the dremel mount).

Using the universal Mount that I modded (the F v2 from thingiverse is too high I shared my remix)

I have printed off my parts, attached the bearings, cut up the tubing and today started work on the table to mount it all on.

Using 25mm stainless steel chrome tubing from Bunnings. They have it hidden. its not where you would think tubing would be.

so far so good.

finally a weekend free. finished some more of it. now have the top, side runners and space for a (re)moveable spoil board.

Tomorrow I start on assembling and mounting the frame.

Just a little video of what's going on right now. Those just starting a build keep at it! And don't forget to rotate your conduit.

Just a fyi only use the cheap vbits from eBay or anywhere for testing only and then get a good set of vbits it will be night and day on your cuts and less cleanup.

Does anyone know which mounts I need for a Dewalt 660? I downloaded the new C-Nut-Trap and associated 660 mounts, but this is how it fits to my machine. I have the original middle assembly, not the new files.

Nevermind, don't worry about it. I got impatient and made my own. First cut went well!

12V 10A has work great for me, it just depends on the total load. Maybe be safe and go with a 24v 30A

Most of us do not use a grbl based board, but for the few that do, this looks awesome!

you can use any program you want. You are not trying to connect estlcam to the arduino mega are you? connect with repetier, generate gcode with anything else or code some by hand with the notepad to test. I have some example code in the forum under torture test.

when you forget to set you home position for your z axis and you hear a crunch and hope for the worst. seems it was only the coupler that cracked in half ended up getting the glue out and temp holding it till I could print one out. but was a solid 12hrs of cutting today! so that is awesome.

next step : mounting end stops and a load cell to stop on excessive z forced on the spindle.

FYI I freakin love this machine just started printing the new machine can't wait to have a dedicated machine for my dewalt and one for the laser build. Sure I could switch out but the machine I have now barely stops running. Added the cyclone dust collector I printed off thingiverse and such a nice addition I'm using a small shop vac so was becoming a pain dumping it every day now it's been a month and the vacuum inside only has a few small dust deposits in it.
