Song of the Day: Live to Rise by Soundgarden

Live to Rise is a recent song from Soundgarden with a great rythym (not as great as say, "Spoonman"), guitars, drums, and vocals. Their best song since Spoonman imo.

Song of the day: Absolute Zero by Stone Sour

Stone Sour is one of my favorite bands; top 30 at the least. Anyways, this breakaway from Slipknot has some of the best rock music in recent years. House of Gold & Bones was a great 2 part album that really made just about any other genre look like derps, in terms of context and content.

This song is my favorite of the "album" because it has great lyrics, a great beat, great drums, awesome guitars, and great vocals.

Song of the day: Hunter Eats Hunter by Chevelle.

Chevelle is a really great band, and definitely in my top 100 (though that list will probably never be made because I'd screw up somewhere down the line, snuffing somebody, or whatever. Lol). Hunter Eats Prey is my favorite song off of their latest album, Le Gargola. It's got great rhythm, guitars, and vocals. And while people get too pissy with Chevelle like they do with Nickelback and surprisingly Finger Eleven, I still like their sound and find the mix of angst and damn near savagery of this song to be amazing.

And I love that they used a plague doctor for the album cover.

Going slightly retro here. My favorite song of the 90's. About a light machine gunner in Vietnam. Great song, good rhythm...the only downside is the repetativity

28th highest rated song in 2004...I know...random...this song isn't even the best in this album, but y'know...people liked it, so I thought you might.

I would like to explain why I think rock is the best musical genre, and will always be number 1, in terms of content and context. This is just one of many reasons why, but it's definitely one of the biggest reasons.

The thing is that I always find rock songs to have the best background story. Within the lyrics, you can always find something you just can't find anywhere except for country and maybe a couple others. Let me give an example of a song that don't have an official story, but kind of gives way to one: Indestructible by Disturbed. Not only did I enjoy the album, "Indestructible", but the song Indestructible kind of makes me think of something. Now within the song, he talks about being the master of destruction and war, blah blah blah, but the context within it makes me feel like he's this mercenary that gets hired by different governments/militaries where he walks on the battlefield and destroys his enemy, with no regret whatsoever. And this makes me think even more, and I love that feeling.

You don't get this content or context when you're listening to "Gangnum Style" and its ilk. They're predictable, but that's besides the point. Sure they have a "theme", but they have no context within them. It's just a bunch of mindless bs that is somehow popular.

What are your thoughts on my rant? Do I have it right, or am I just a cynical asshole? XD
