Dear Teachers,

Happy Memorial Day weekend!

Thanks to the financial support of the Catholic Community Foundation, the Office for the Mission of Catholic Education (OMCE) has provided an excellent opportunity for your talented staff to receive professional development in faith formation this summer.

Considered the leading summer conference for those engaged in the teaching of the Catholic Faith, the St. John Bosco Conference (July 16-19, 2018) brings together international experts in Catechesis and evangelization to present relevant and engaging sessions for both parish and school catechists. Rooted in this year's theme, "Holy Spirit: Bond of Love", the conference provides 7 different tracks for those who want to dive into specialized training in catechesis and evangelization. To learn more about the conference please go to the following link:

Funding for reimbursing six teachers of registration fees and travel assistance (up to $1,000 per person*) is being provided by the Catholic Community Foundation of MN. Funding will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Those selected to receive funding will receive a check. The check will be sent to the school principal and passed along to funding recipient(s). OMCE will work with teachers receiving the funding to register for the conference.

To apply, please complete the form (attached below) by June 1, 2018 and email it to . The Office for the Mission of Catholic Education will respond to all applications by June 7,2018.

What materials do 6-7-8th grade teachers use for "Family Life"?

Our religion committee is doing a curriculum review. Can anyone share what curriculum resources you use for middle school? In particular, I am looking for ideas to make Church History more enjoyable for the 8th grade, but any great resources you have to share would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone,

I am looking to see if the diocese has religion standards that are more up to date than those from 2005. Thank you for your help.

Have you and your students submitted your photo yet for the Catholic Schools Photo Contest? It’s not too late (yet)! The deadline to submit entries is Monday, April 2nd. And the first prize is $1,000! Learn more here:

My pre-K-8 school is looking at updating our service requirements. I would greatly appreciate any feedback you have about your program, including but not limited to the following:

1. What tools do you use to track/document?

2. How much service do you ask them to do?

We are looking to implement school-wide requirement (right now it is up to the individual classroom/religion teachers). I'd also be interested to hear if you have anything surrounding service in your school that you especially love.

I'm looking for a good 8th grade unit on the Mass. My 8th-grade text doesn't have one and I want to "send them off" knowing they know their stuff. Anybody have one they like?

Our school is looking into purchasing a new Religion Curriculum. What does your school use, what are the positives and negatives about the program. Does K-8 use the same series or different? Thanks for taking time to answer this post!

Dear Religion teachers,

Amy Cummings at Partnership for Youth is looking for middle school religion teachers to help give input for their new middle school youth conference. Please see the below request:

After 17 years of providing high school students with moments to encounter Christ through the Steubenville Youth Conferences, Partnership for Youth is excited to announce its intent to introduce a large-scale, Catholic, middle school youth event to the Twin Cities in fall of 2018! With the vast needs of Catholic middle-schoolers (and those who work with them) in-mind, we would like to assemble a group of youth ministers, Catholic middle school teachers and other partners in ministry to provide input that will guide us in the development and execution of this event.

A sample of some of our questions:
- What timeframe would result in the best potential attendance from this demographic?

- What would be a reasonable ticket cost?

- What sorts of topics, themes or content would you suggest for this demographic?

- How much free time is appropriate or necessary?

We invite you to join us for an in-person brainstorming session to share your feedback! Please indicate your availability through the following poll:

We will schedule two sessions from the most favored times and send out an invite with additional details.

Warm Regards,
Amy Cummings
