Exercise #24
Do you want to become happier?  Would you like to learn to be calmer in stressful situations, or just be able to relax after a busy day?  Do you want to feel better and have a more positive outlook?  My simple breathing, focus, and awareness exercises may help.  The exercises are shared once a day and are repeated monthly.  Most of them only take a minute or two, and are extremely simple.  Over time, learn to do a few that you enjoy through memory and practice these as your main exercises.  Continue to try the daily ones.  If you find one that does not work, let it go and return to the exercises you enjoy.  Try to be consistent by working the exercises a few minutes each day.  If you only have time for a minute here and there through-out the day that will work.
 
Take a thirty day challenge and try them for five minutes a day.  After thirty days, ask yourself if the exercises have helped with stress reduction, relaxation, and happiness.  If so, keep doing them.  If not, all you are out are a few hours of time.  At first you may think that they are too simple to be of any use, but after doing them for a while you may be surprised at how much they help.

Breath Improvement Exercise
Relax and breathe deep
 
We have all heard the saying "take three deep breaths to feel better." If we would actually do this several times a day, we would be more relaxed. Try to be conscious of those short periods during the day where you are between tasks.  Take advantage of the moment by taking 3 deep breaths.
 
When you find yourself in a stressed state, take 3 or more, deep breaths and purposefully try and lengthen, slow, and quiet your breathing.  Deepening the breath helps to activate the relaxed mode. Focusing on your breath puts you in the present moment, and makes the stressor less and less important.
