The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between, the leader is a servant.

How to Get Money!

Writing and Using Business plans  -

Do it yourself! Want to learn "at the frontline" in learning a biz? Look around at products online and try importing and selling on eBay. You'll learn plenty about the early stages of running a biz - it's great practice and you should at least break even if you start small with your purchase.

Don't worry about minimum order quantities (MOQ) you'll get a couple of items shipped as a sample if you contact seller.

Think outside the box with regards to what you can try to sell, but you'll get bids for most things.

Let us know how you go!

31 Ways To Be Creative (Infographic)

by +PakWired

31 Creativity Hacks for Left-Brain Thinkers (Infographic)

"Creativity is critical in business, but what do you do if you're not naturally creative?

Funders and Founders shares 31 ways to be creative in the infographic below, including:

Use What You Got--In the early days of a start-up, "what you got" might not be much at all, but make it work. Scarcity forces us to get creative and consider options we might skip over otherwise.

Destroy Creatively--This is one of my personal favorites. We think in terms of building and adding on when we're growing a business, but taking something apart and getting back to basics can be just as effective in finding a creative solution!

Stay Hungry--Experiencing success can lull some into a sense of complacency. Don't settle for small wins--accept them and keep thinking about the unique ways in which you can grow and build on them.

Don't Ask 'Why? 'Ask 'Why Not?'--Why go looking for obstacles to set in your own way? Ask yourself, why not? If there's nothing insurmountable standing in your way, go for it.

Check out all of these other ways you can get more creative:"

You can easily build or modify a marketing plan or a business plan with data from the Census Bureau.

Startups: Uses for U.S. Census Data©

Every ten years the federal government takes a census.  This results in a picture of population trends, where people live, their ages, their educational level and a host of other data that is available to us and to our businesses. It includes state and county information and some areas are even broken down by zip code.

Earlier this week I blogged about “Marketing Plans and Developing a Marketing Strategy”.  The U.S. Census Bureau is here to help you.

The bureau has four wonderfully supportive sources of data that you can use in building a marketing plan and a marketing strategy.
1. Comparing your business to others – Wouldn’t it be helpful to compare your business to others in related industries and to others in your local area?  Well, you can. And the Census Bureau has tools that can show you how you are doing in terms of revenue, numbers of locations and compares your business to similar businesses.
2. Comparing your community to others – Used primarily by state economic development commissions to attract businesses to their borders, it can be very useful in determining if your (e.g. pharmaceutical testing services) is well- established in a region and if it might be worthwhile to expand or move there (or not).
3. Identifying business markets - Consider that you own a small chain of grocery specialty stores. You are deciding whether or not to expand to new locations.  By using statistics from the Economic Census and current population estimates to compute the ratio of grocery sales to the number of households for several neighboring metropolitan areas, you will be able to determine that sales per household are lower than other areas, you conclude that nearby markets may have more sales potential.
4. Creating business plans - Entrepreneurs can use statistics from the Economic Census for the industry that they are considering starting a business in or for related industries at the local level in their business plans. They can also use this information for loan applications to local business lenders and in government business development agencies to validate the potential market they are considering entering.

The U.S. Census Bureau has a wonderfully easy website to negotiate.  Your Marketing Strategy and Business Plan deserves some Census Bureau data.

Well the rest of you are trying to survive the drunken, sweaty, portapotty aroma mobfest that is SXSW.  Beginning Saturday I'll be heading off to a breathtaking Cerebral Invite Only intimate gathering of thought leader at Dent Conference in Sun Valley.  Theres a quiet rumor someone named Robert will be there whose been hiding from the internet lately.

I'll be attending an amazing party with Scott Jordan and get to experience his place and his wife well regarded cooking I've heard so much about.  I'll be Meerkating live from the events and taking tons of video and photos.  In the end we'll have a awesome document of Dent on Youtube and social media that should entice people to come in droves.

Steve Broback sent me the approved list of invites and WOW so many "Founder," "CEO," "VC," names on the list.  I think I'll end up smarter.  I feel honored to be on the list.  I might just have to wear a tie with my shorts.

Evidently Buick/GM are gonna have some really "cool" stuff there and set in a beautiful area.  You can come sit in some nice Sun Valley hot tubs and wash off all that SXSW gunk.

Its not too late come - check out the website!

Hello!

I am a business owner and CEO from Europe, producing pharmaceuticals solutions, invented and patented to be sold worldwide. The current portfolio contains 3 products (1. an antiseptic WITHOUT alcohol; 2. A product similar to Betadine, but far more effective; 3. A product similar to Betadine, but for pre- and intra- surgical use). All these 3 products benefit of an original recipe and lower prices than the competitors.

We are looking for angel investors or venture capitalists in order to help us develop the business worlwide. Contact me at catalin.vintu@wrygroup.ro

3 Tips for Starting a Successful New Business

Starting a new business can be a difficult task fraught with doubts, uncertainties and plenty of business perils. But if 23 million small companies can open their doors, so can yours. Here are some tips:

1. Don't focus on the "perfect business plan": Do not be afraid to start a business without a meticulously concocted idea. Focusing on the perfect new invention may only serve to stifle creativity you from launching headfirst into a profitable business venture.

2. Have a clear mission: Tailor and formalize a specific vision for your new company. Sometimes all it takes is deciding to take part in a specific market sector or to serve a particular client. Even the simplest mission statements can lead to the greatest results.

3. Learn through failure or fail to learn: Telling business hopefuls to learn from their mistakes has almost become a cliché, but too few entrepreneurs heed the advice for it to be a wholly invaluable tip. Businesses often fail within their first year, but they do not fail all at once. Find the flaws of your new business and learn from them. The greatest feeling an entrepreneur can achieve is a feeling of gratification when noticing faults.

Feel free to share any of your small business tips!
