What Will Linger?

Often times, the most impactful things in life stick with us. It is the same with classes. The most impactful or important things we learn will stick with us. For me, it will definitely be the process of writing. Starting with freewriting, then going through multiple drafts to complete a final draft. As stated earlier, I would often just write and once I was done, that would be my final draft. But now, I can say I am a more successful writer because I have a better writing process. As I continue to write throughout my college career, I will always remember the importance of creating several different drafts. Careful editing can make big differences and changes between the first and last draft. I will also continue to consider freewriting before any assignment. Freewriting allows me to decompress all of my thoughts on a certain topic. "Spilling" all of my thoughts onto paper allows me to get a better picture of the topic.

My Future as a Writer

When I think of a writer, I think of someone who writes novels or articles. Something scholarly. People who are "authors". However, the term "writer" is not always so specific. Typing a caption to instagram, posting something to twitter, even writing down an agenda makes you a writer. Although I might not write research papers or rhetorical pieces in my spare time, I still write digitally. In fact, I think most of my writing is done digitally through the use of social media. My future as a writer might not lay in the direction of a best selling author, but I will definitely continue to write digitally for the rest of my life.

What Do I Do Differently?

I have become a more successful and complete writer with the help of this course. When I mean complete, I mean I now have a better, fuller writing process, therefore a better product.
Some of the changes in my writing include:

Freewriting

Freewriting was a mini assignment we did in class everyday, and it really helped me in breaking down a topic. It allowed me to grab the bigger ideas and make them into many smaller detailed topics. It also helped me grasp the topic at hand.

Writing in drafts

Writing in drafts helps me tremendously in creating a completed product. Before this class, I would often just start typing and whenever I finished, I would consider that my final draft. Now I write with three different drafts. A discovery draft, writing group draft, and a in progress draft. This creates a better developed piece.
